It seems actual comic book stores are becoming few and far between thanks to digital comics. I have one near me and it has tons of comics plus action figures, video games, DVDs, pretty much anything involving comic characters. It's really cool but it doesn't do much business. Do you guys have one around you? What's it like?

Unfortunately not. One will open in our town every few years or so, but they never last very long :(

There use to be several, now only one, but that's all I need! ~6 miles away

One opened in my town about 2 years ago. I think the gaming keeps the guy in business. I shop in the next town over. There are 3 shops in about a 10-12 mile radius.

There's one that's about 10-15 minutes away that I go to. Really cool guys. They also sell action figures and cards etc. and host game nights where people can come and play D&D or whatever.

I have about 7 within a reasonable distance of me.

The one I prefer is not the closest.

I have two, but one is really small, and kinda sucks, so I go to the large one, which is in driving distance.

@bigcimmerian: comics were popular in the 90s but even then they were sold at most at news stands. nowadays we have comics but they're not legit, as in they sell knock-offs using copy/paste of spider-man pics. and yes only spider-man comics. the last real comic series we had was ultimate spider-man but it died fast. lasted only up to number 10.

I have one 30 minutes away

I have one about 5 miles away. I didn't even know it was there, I was taking a backway to work one day and saw it. Thankfully.

#23 Posted by TheManInTheShoe (3878 posts) - - Show Bio

None, 2h away

#24 Edited by nintendork666 (284 posts) - - Show Bio

Just 2 left around here within reasonable driving distance.

One, Back to the Past, is literally right down the street from me, and it's absolutely HUGE (literally called a Comics & Pop Culture Warehouse). Their pull-list system is kinda screwy so I only grab my bags, boards, and boxes there, and go a few miles out of my way to a smaller shop called A to Z Cards & Comics in the next town over for my new books. I really want to see both places stick around for as long as possible, so it's nice to support them both as often as I can.

There used to be many stores in my city they only used to have local comics though but now not even 1 is left but sometimes book stores & magazine stores can still be seen selling some comic books , finding any Marvel , DC or Image is super rare let alone following a series so i just end up ordering them from a shopping site even then a single issue too damn costly so been a year since i last ordered a comic . Nowadays i just download comics & read them on pc from a free site :/

I'm lucky to have several to choose from

Alliance Comics

Barbarian Comics

Big Planet Comics

Beyond Comics

Fantom Comics

If your ever in the DC area please support.

There's a tiny one across town (15 minutes) that's my favorite simply because the guy that owns it is really helpful and doesn't treat you like dirt if you have a question.

There's a huge one about an hour away a couple towns over but I don't go there that awesome because it's in a very sketchy part of town and everyone that works there has contracted the comic snob virus.

I have two.

#32 Posted by giantsfan576 (1090 posts) - - Show Bio

@irishx: that's cool. Id upload a picture of the one by me there but I don't know how. I can take it on my phone but how would I get it on there?

#33 Posted by broo1232 (1520 posts) - - Show Bio

30 minutes drive, but that comic store runs a stall on weekends in my town so that's where I get them.

#34 Edited by chem86 (358 posts) - - Show Bio

I have about 3 within 15 minutes of driving, but not much further like 20-30min there are another3-4. 6-7 within 30min of driving, I feel pretty lucky

#35 Posted by d_bones (1398 posts) - - Show Bio

I have a proper one like fifteen minutes away but honestly would rather go downtown and go to the movie/book/comic store which sells at reduced prices. sorry local shop you cant beat those prices....

#36 Posted by BigL (246 posts) - - Show Bio

I have two that are 20 minutes away driving but traffic is really bad so it takes 30-40 minutes driving so that's why I buy a lot of digital and trades

#37 Posted by Dabee (2385 posts) - - Show Bio

I have several in my area, all have been around for a really long time. Maybe the DC Metro area has a lot of fans? I don't know... but I'm grateful for it!

#38 Posted by InFamous_Wolf (973 posts) - - Show Bio

Luckily I have one near my high school which is also reasonably close to my house.

#39 Posted by War Killer (20125 posts) - - Show Bio

The nearest CBS from my home is about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.

Though the Books-A-Millions, which is only 25-30 minutes from my home, also sells comics, but I've never considered it a "comic book store."

I actually have a few shops near me. But I only frequent 1-2.

I haven't been to comic book store for years, but we had all of ultimate universe and some of 616 series. In my country European comics are more popular than Marvel and DC.

I've got one about a 10-15 minute drive away.

It's the only one in the area, and it's not the best one I've been to, but it's still a pretty good store.

#43 Posted by theTimeStreamer (2841 posts) - - Show Bio

@bigcimmerian: i got lucky when a physics teacher went to florida and gave her money to buy me a comic. and she brought me back ultimate spider-man volume 1. i was like 'f&ck yeah'.

Got one that's just far enough away to be inconvenient.

#45 Posted by Catsnlynne (1020 posts) - - Show Bio

I have one. The people who work there are so nice and helpful. I went there on Saturday and I spent almost 30 minutes talking to the guy who works there about Daredevil and Green Lantern. My comic book store has everything. I like it a lot.

A long, long time ago, in a neighborhood far, far away, there was one. You knoW what happened to it? Everybody spilled coffee at once. Like, all over the place. Earthquakes aren't supposed to happen in Iowa....

#47 Posted by Nightcraft (253 posts) - - Show Bio

I have three near me. The closest one is about a fifteen minute drive, but usually has very bad customer service. The second one is roughly the same distance, it's just in a very bad area and the comics aren't usually in good condition. The third one is probably the best, but depending on traffic it'll take thirty to forty minutes just to get there.

Blastoff comics opened up like 10 months ago and it's the closest one at 6 miles

I have 1 shop really nearby, but the people in there are rude, so instead I take the train and make a 30-40 min ride to another one. The section of US comics is rather small, but so far they managed to get almost everything I wanted to buy (=single issues; trades are cheaper when I get them from amazon). Apparently they mostly sell translated US comics, European comics like Asterix, and mangas. They also have a limited selection of figures (mostly DC Direct figures).

I wish there was something like Midtown Comics around here. People who can go into a store as huge as that one are really lucky.
