...which do you find more interesting, comics with high powered characters such as Superman, Thor, Hulk and Wonder woman, or those with street level characters such as Wolverine, Spidey and Batman?

I feel like this has been done before, but I'll go with high powered.

I like street levelers more, because their adventures feel more superheroic. They're saving ordinary people and stuff like that, while powerhouses often face much bigger threats, where the "realism" gets pushed aside very often.

I grew up watching DBZ & Batman TAS.

So I gotta go with both.

I think I tend to go High-powered.
Superman, Fantastic Four, JLA that's the stuff I enjoy the most.

Both.

I like reading both, I think on an intellectual level the street level characters have more depth and humanity to them, but I'm not saying the high powered one's don't, it's not common though.

Street leveller. Love reading Daredevil, Punisher, Batman stories.

#19 Posted by DecoyElite (4021 posts) - - Show Bio

Street level unless the high tier stuff is really neat.

Middle class suburban level powered. I like the kind of characters that wouldn't last two hours on any street anywhere. Soft, pampered, nervous types who wheeze after any sort of physical activity. Elderly heroes (think Wolverine age but without the healing factor or pent up sexual aggression) are a plus, those with injuries especially. Their high end feats should be raising arms above their waist and knocking jars of anything off small tables because their lids are too tight to take off by any other means. Of course since these level of character can't withstand hard floors, such glass jars fall onto soft carpet and roll under sofa's never to be seen again - sort of like the Negative Zone.

I enjoy both if the writing's good. However, I do prefer the feel of street-level stories.

Ohhh high powered >:)

I like the mixture of both. kinda like Flash, he fights on the streets but his powers are (I'm over exaggerating) god-like.

It depends because there are times when high powered characters have really cool stories but most of the times I prefer my street levelers.

#26 Posted by kcjr (364 posts) - - Show Bio

My favorite two characters are Spider-man (street leveler) and Silver Surfer (powerhouse). After them, I really don't have a preference in power level types, I just care about the stories.

@themanintheshoe: Don't worry no exaggeration at all. Anybody that can reverse time, travel through reality and turn into a ray of light...just by running? Is a damn God. Lol

I'm fine with either really, although I find those who can write high powered stories well to be more impressive.

My favourite Characters are a healthy mixture of both. Though Martian Manhunter, Adam warlock and the Beyonder top my list, figures like Daredevil, Bullseye and Deathstroke could equally be up there for me.

Abstract conceptual beings level/powers. Like those that transcend the meta, the Ω, the ≈ and the ∞. Characters that look at characters who create multilverses and only see amoeba drooling really bad poetry. Their powers and abilities are always increasing exponentially, but beyond that they are incomprehensible by fans let alone the writers attempting to convey them. Only writers with 99 year old beards can accurately depict characters of this power level, and you can't read them without going blind, but if you risk it you will end up pregnant, and pregnant with dizygotic twins.

Street Levelers and Cosmic. I don't like the high powered characters that hang out on earth.

#32 Posted by HeckTate (1466 posts) - - Show Bio

Depends what I'm in the mood to read. I love my Constantine, who I guess would be street level, though he is capable of pulling out some big guns. But I was also a big fan of the Spectre, who is about as highpowered as a character can get. I guess it really depends on the characters and stories for me. High powered characters can be interesting as long as they're not just duking it out with a high powered enemy for a whole issue, while the street level characters typically (in my opinion) use their powers better (or more interestingly) but stories can drag if they really struggle to overcome the challenges they encounter.

Higher than street level, but not omglightspeed..

#34 Posted by Cap10nate (3225 posts) - - Show Bio

Probably favor street to mid level but still enjoy high powered characters.

#35 Posted by nintendork666 (287 posts) - - Show Bio

Both, but all my favorites are street level.

#36 Posted by Spideysense44 (3703 posts) - - Show Bio

i love streetlevel characters better bc they are more down to earth and believable and they actally are vulnerable, but high powered characters are badass too

Street level by fare. I would have been an intresting vote. However more people tend to go for street level than I thought.

You mean like Kick-Ass?

High-powered.

No disrespect but that isn't a surprise.

street levelers are allot more interesting to me. running swiftly through alleyways beating the tar out of a mugger! could be the reason i like kick-ass so much.

street lvl by far. High power is kinda boring because they never get hurt. I like seeing a strt lvler who can barely move somehow get up and fight on. I think street lvlrs are just more tough in general. They go through so many more injuries and pain than powerhouses do.

#45 Posted by MonsterStomp (24556 posts) - - Show Bio

Street levellers all day.

I would generally go with street levelers because I often find their stories more interesting, their battles better and their more down to Earth. But, I also like some high powered characters to. Doctor Strange and Phantom Stranger are examples of powerful characters that I like.

Street by far. I tried to get into some High powered chars, but the only ones i don't completly detest are BRB and Shazam/Cap Marvel

High powered, but I like streets too

#50 Posted by ChildoftheAtom (501 posts) - - Show Bio

Leaning to the side of street levelers for already stated reasons. But I like a mix of both like when they are written on a team. The avengers have awesome power sets if written correctly and Thor and hulk are at more superhuman levels. This powerlevel is where movies and cartoons put there hero power levels at because it is the golden zone for story. I really lost touch with the justice league when the heroes were planet busters and were not really superheroes any more since most of them only risked their lives if they were fighting gods. I've never read Spider-Man comic books but I love his powers. His powerlevel let him take on fearsome super villains. His strength and durability are high enough to be truly super and low enough to where u can truly grasp how amazing they are and worry if he will be injured in his fights. I also enjoy the xmen most of the avengers, and daredevil for similar reasons. Thoughts?
