Hi is this the place where people might know where the best place to sell old comics is other than ebay?

Looking for options for selling dad's old comics. There is rather a lot so if anyone can provide some info of shops that might be a good place to go.

Just outside London

Any advice is welcome

Currently trying to compile a list on the computer when it works ! Please let me know if you are interested. Considering ebay but to list thousands of comics is not practical.

Forgot to say mostly atlas, marvel and national comics from 50s 60s 70s and some 80s I think. There are about 46 boxes. Also around 750 vintage 1950s western comics. And some comics in plastic cases and some books(66)

Thanks

EBAY is the best place. You should not try to sell them all at once, You might have a rare comic in there that can get you loads of cash.

@crash_: thank you but looking at ebay it seems to be a long process. There are literally thousands of comics. All nicely sorted but can't find a list so having to create one. Is there an ebay company or comics shop service where they will list the comics for you?

Thanks

I'd highly recommend making a good inventory list of all the individual books and their condition then doing some research on their estimated value. You could have some very valuable books and many near worthless, or at least not worth a lot of trouble shipping etc.

Thanks for the info. Just looking at the comic connect site and I recognise some of our dad's comics and he has quite a few. What I can't beleive is the price!!!! Had someone from gumtree come round for a look at the comics and he offered around around .30p comic, which we were happy with as there nearly 15k comics(£5,000) , but my brother just wanted to get a second opinion. What made us try to look into this more is that he's been very keen since we said we wil think about it and he keeps phoning and has increased his offer 3 times to now £9,500 cash if we sell them to him tomorrow!! Now that's a big increase which got us thinking of other ways to sell. But you can see why we don't want to list on ebay with so many, it would takes us 10 years.

For info some of the titles we've seen in the boxes and just trying to catelogue the titles to start are

Amazing spideman

Fantastic 4

Hulk

Hulk and giant man in tales of astonish

Hulk and submarine in tales of astonish

Unknown worlds atlas

Strange world atlas

Uncanny tales atlas

You might have a goldmine on your hands what issue numbers do you have of the popular DC and Marvel characters? If they're from the 60s you might have some 1st issue Marvel titles worth hundreds of thousands.

If he raised the price he must have seen something really valuable.

@dadsoldcomics:

Just the fact the guy keeps checking back, increasing his offer, and trying to rush you into a sale is a good indicator you've got something good.

He wouldn't be doing that if he just needed something to line his Canary cage with!

Maybe look at a professional Auctioneers in your area? Or even the nearest Comic store in the phone book for local advice?

@bluejay4: hi We're not looking to sell them thru this forum just wanted some advice on how to go about selling them. Looking into the comic world now it seems that there is a healthy market for old comics and a lot depends on condition. All comics are in plastic bags with boards and look incredible considering some are over 50 years old, but not being an expert, can't be sure. I think we are taking some of the advice and will take some of the early comics to a specialist shop for assessment and some help. If they are just rubbish then we'd probably sell them as a lot, or thru a specialist auction house or ebay or both. It's been quite interesting doing this research though. I think from the response from our ad on gumtree has set some alarm bells ringing. Thanks

@dadsoldcomics:

I changed my mind about them being ok- I'll give you $9.95 for the lot, if you pay the postage!

:P

Good luck with your sales, let us know what the specialists say.
