I consider the following superheroes to be mainstream: Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Robin. I think Green Arrow, Shazam and Captain Marvel have the ability to one day be as popular as the mainstream heroes and get movies, cartoons, toys and video games. Aquaman is mainstream in name but isn't popular but I think if the general public was exposed to the one from the comics and not the one from Super Friends he would become very popular.

What heroes can you guys see becoming mainstream?

WW, DD, Punisher, GL(I think people know his power not who he is but Hal would get the most recognition), Flash(same as GL but don't know who stands out), Blade, the X-Men characters are all recoginizable by costume/name but the depth of the character(their real name) aren't known by the public making them like Aquaman to me. Their are others like She-Hulk, Green Arrow and Gambit.

when I was younger I thought Static was going to be mainstream. He had his own universe(although I didn't/don't like that its Dakota and not a fictional city which is DC staple, i know he wasn't always DC)

he had his own villains who had simple names that you could identify their powers with(as I think Lex, Magnus and a few Batman villains are mainstream). the tv show gave him Gear/She-Bang as partners and some great crossover episodes.

the strict 52 episode format from the WB/DC kills alot of great shows for zero reasons. he could have been their Spider-Man. average teen that power was thrust upon, villains who could have become major threats(even the most powerful ones didn't want to take over the world just fight). they made him close with Batman/Robin, a key to bringing someone else into the mainstream with frequent showings from their top billers. looking at the show Ultimate Spiderman they could have had that with Static/Gear(who i'm happy they gave powers)/She-Bang(liked her character could have called her Unix).

I don't think comics really want to bring anyone to the mainstream that already isn't their because with a thousand spiderman/batman animated series another Static Shock wouldn't fail. they could even place him and is universe in Bludhaven under Nightwing's guidance. Exposure for both a beloved character and their teenage up comer. Virgil stepmom could be Dick's commissioner, while Dick guides Virgil and his young team against crime and the meta human outbreak.

Daredevil. He's pretty similar to Batman (a guy mainstream eats up).

Any of the New Teen Titans, and 5 of them are very close to breaking through thanks to the TV shows, main problem is that DC currently arent interested in elevating them, Gar and Raven have been deaged twice now, Dick has lost all connection with most of them, Starfire is out on a fringe-team and Cyborg is the JL coat hanger (which is probably the greatest progression for all of them).

@kasino: Whike I didn't care for your ideas, I have to agree. The new 52 screwed Virgil over because they pointlessly tried to change the character.

I think once DD gets a blockbuster movie like Man of Steel 2, his popularity will skyrocket.

Well Marvel owns the rights to him again, so it is a possibility. I almost half expect in Cap 2 for him to walk by 'Murdock and'...whose the other guy?

@krspacet: It was meant to be a joke about Affleck being Batman in the next Man of Steel. :P
