Helen Slater and Dean Cain Join CBS' Supergirl

Big news fans of the Superman/Supergirl television and film universes! Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 film and Dean Cain, who played Superman on the television show Lois & Clark, will appear on CBS' upcoming Supergirl show, according to TVLine. As of right now, there is no news who they are playing, as it is top secret.

Who will these two people play? What are your guesses?

They might be playing Agents of D.E.O. (Department of Extra-Normal Operations).

Dean will always be Superman to me.

That's pretty cool, sounds like this show is really shaping up to be something cool.

Hmm Dean might be Superman himself like Elseworld where this one Supergirl inspire HIM. As for Helen Slater, Allura for sure.

I was waiting for Slater's name to be added to the cast. And now it's finally happened.

Alura has already been cast, she's being played by Laura Bernanti. Cain and Slater might be playing Kara's Earth parents.

DCTV takes care of it's own. Brandon Routh, that guy who played Flash in the 90's and now these guys. While I may not have seen his show or know him very well, this is pretty cool.

They are doing the same thing as CW's Flash, and frankly, that's Awesome !

would like to see him maybe being "Kal-L" Earth two Superman,and maybe making a multiverse type story with him in it would really find that pretty awesome! Either way i'm glad he will be in a secret role for the show!

Absolutely. And while it's not part of the current influx of comic book shows, there was a TON of legacy casting in Smallville. Teri Hatcher, Dean Cain, Helen Slater, off the top of my head.

Not a fan of Cain at all. Lois and Clark is the "TMNT: the next mutation" of the Superman franchise.

Nah wasn't THAT bad ^ Superboy show was much worse than Lois and Clark.

At any rate,this is interesting plus they were on Smallville as Clark's biological mother and Dean was Vandal Savage.

Neat-o, but how long until they bring in Tom Welling or Kristin Kreuk? Bringing in Cain and Slater is a nice homage to the past incarnations of those who wore the big red "S" in the past. Christopher Reeve was on Smallville, too and while George Reeves was dead long before the series aired, Phyllis Coates and Jack Larson, who played Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen in the 1950's Adventures of Superman, also guested on Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman.

Now, if someone in Hollywood really wants to surprise me, I'd like to see Kevin Conroy guest-star on FOX's Gotham.

If he's (as already mentioned) an older Superman that would be the bees knees.

If Hank Henshaw or Supergirl's father becomes some form of Cyborg Superman in this as a villain for Supergirl then I hope it's Dean playing him.

Ha, that's fun. Sort of like 90s Flash being new Flash's dad. I like when they give some props to the folks who came before, and had to make due with less-impressive effects.

@kilowog52: Annette O'Toole, yes she was Martha Kent and Lana Lang.

Incidentally, Margot Kidder appeared on Smallville, too as Dr. Swain's (Christoper Reeve) "Girl Friday". And Amanda Pays, from the former Flash series was on the current Flash series a few weeks ago.

While it is cruel to remind anyone (especially Helen Slater herself!) of the 80's Supergirl movie, I do approve of this kind of stunt casting. :)
