Hardcover or paperbacks?

 So recently I've decided to actually collect comics. A problem surfaced and it was this. Hardcover books are obviously more durable, and the last thing I would want is for those beautiful covers to be damaged. However, hardcover books costs more than paperbacks. I'm not exactly rich (I'm saving up for comics, what do you think?).  

Honestly, I prefer paperback, they are much easier to store due to the size and flexibility of the cover, plus reading it is easier because the spine bends more easily, so you won't miss what's in the center of the page on some more badly bound books.  Plus the price which is awesome, but di what you feel is right.

I usually prefer hardcover and I think the durability of them is worth the expense. What I get in hardcover vs what I get in paperback depends on the series though. For the main series I follow I go with hardcover editions, and for random other stories or mini's I'll spend a little less and get them in paperback.

i go with both, i get the trades for ongoing series like spiderman with the exception of Invincible which i get in the big hardbacks, and i'll get the hardbacks if it's just one off stories like green arrow year one, what ever happened to the caped crusader and kick-ass, basically it's down to you i have mine ordered in size so it goes big hardbacks small hardbacks then trades so it looks all neat, except for all star superman i got volume one in trade and volume 2 in hardback, personally i'm peeved when ever i look at them cause their not the same but thats just me, but the price for the trades is pretty good especially if you want to get an ongoing, the only draw back is the wait cause the hardbacks come out first, i'm still waiting on voulme 4 of spider-man the gauntlet.

Well I prefer hardcovers not only cause there much more durable, because the industry seems to be moving towards hardcovers, infact  the hardcovers are usually out like 10 months ahead of the paperback version. While the paperbacks are cheaper for sure, you also could be stuck waiting a long period of time just to save a few bucks.

Paperback they are cheaper tougher and more flexible and neither has any collective value so why get the more expensive one that can't hack the abuse?

Hardcover forever, its just a very difficult but satisfying feeling to describe. 
Hardcovers > Paperback.

I find hardcovers harder to store (they're taller then my shelves) but I'm much more comfortable loaning them out to people then my paperbacks
Personally, though, since I do keep them on a bookshelf they stay in good condition so I usually get paperbacks

Paperbacks for the most part. Cheaper and I won't be as upset if something were to happen to them.

I'm more of a collector myself, so I get the hardcovers for the really important books. Even if they are overpriced. In some cases, you don't have a choice though, like for '52'.

So, is DC not releasing paperbacks for the the new 52? I just got Court of Owls in the mail yesterday from Amazon and it is a hardcover. Not really sure how I feel about it. I was expecting it to be a paperback.

I prefer paperback, but I'll settle for hardcover if the price is right.

Hardcovers are for rich folks. I hate rich folks except Batman.

Paperbacks, due to price. If the price difference he barely significant, I'll go for hardcover simply because they look better and the binding is stronger.

Hardcovers are definitely more expensive for sure, but on Amazon.com it's less pricey. It's more durable and, in my eyes easier to store without damaging it.

Paperbacks are more easily to be damaged through shipping and handling of comic book. If you do want the TB to last, it is mandatory to put it into a bag & board.

Depends on your space. Paperbacks are more flexible and expendable, while Hardcovers are more for preserving and long-time durability.

TPB's. I don't have money for the hardcovers. But again do also not buy singel issue since i find it to take op to much space and is to much work in keeping in condition. Keeping your TPB on the shelf is a bit esaier that way.

I go right for the hardcovers.

Most of my comics are paperback, but there's something extra special about hardcovers. So I save up for a few.

I prefer softcovers, but I have three that are hardcovers (not counting Marvel Omnibuses).

Depends on the book. If it's something I'm passionate about, and there's a Hardcover, I'm grabbing it.

I prefer paperbacks. Cheaper and easier to read. I go for hardcover with some special ones, and I think my collection is about 50/50, but I really do prefer TPB's

If I was rolling in dough I'd buy hardcovers

I prefer Hardcover, but when I'm trying to buy a really bulky series (Sandman trades, Daredevil Trades, JLA) I go for paperback if the option is available..

I'm sad that of all the New 52 books, Nightwing is one of the few that they didn't make hardcovers for (or at least that I'm aware of) and it looks like the cheap part of my collection.

Paperbacks... They are often cheaper and feel nicer to read.
Plus most of them fit in longboxes and don't take up as much space in them as hardcovers do when they fit.

99% of my comics are now either Hardcovers or TPB. Usually I buy what is available in front of me. When both are I'm I'm going for the Hardcovers.

I didn't really changed this approach now that my kids read them too.

if you want covers to display pick single issues

if you want to store whole stories go with paperback better to read less space needed to store and cheaper

(i also prefer paperbacks overall and only buy single issues like numbers ones or if i love the cover)

there is really no good reason to go for hardcovers unless maybe very special ones like you want to have your top 5 stories on your shelf displayed as books even then i would go for single issue representations of the stories usually you have more to pick from sometimes you find better issue covers than the whole book has

Aside from Adventure Time (which I only got because they were big and is my favorite comic series), paperback is just better.
