Green Lantern Preview Shows Hal Jordan's New Status Quo
I'm relatively new to Green Latern but I want to read about him more. Is this series above a good place to start? If not, what's a good place to start? What will get me fricken hooked on him?
Also, what's the strongest he can become, relative to Silver Surfer lets say?
@warmachine4life: He can erase Silver Surfer from existence and can re-create the multiverse thats how powerful Hal Jordan (ZH Parallax) can be. You can start at GL #00 at New 52.
@vinomonster: unless other viners begin to heavily dispute you, you have sold me on Green Lantern.
@warmachine4life: If you want to know how powerful Hal..read Emerald Twilight followed by Zero Hour.
@buttersdaman000:If I remember it correctly, he was removed as a GL thats why he steal Krona's gauntlet to escape Mogo.
@jonny_anonymous: Those few pages are like.....the best thing I've seen in such a long time...
@jonny_anonymous: Me too. I'm still waiting to see Hal's new partner.

It depends how much comics you're willing to dig through to really get to know the characters and the GL mythos-it might not be worth it to read many older comics because of the recent changes. But if you're really really interested in the character, I recommend reading Emerald Twilight (and if you want to look deeper into DC history, Emerald Twilight is a direct result of The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen storylines, which are real clasics).
My most favourite Green Lantern storyline is one of the biggest events in the history of superhero comics, The Blackest Night. To fully understand the reasons for the Blackest Night, you might have to read Infinite Crisis (doesn't really include much GL stuff, but it's another one of those iconic comic book events) and War of Light (involves Sinestro Corps War, Sins of the Star Sapphires and others, basically (re)introduces other lantern corps). Oh and before War of Light, Green Lantern: Rebirth resolves some things from the aforementioned Emerald Twilight. Brightest Day is a direct followup of Blackest Night, but it doesn't really focus on Green Lanterns.
The last important storyline is War of Green Lanterns which basically shows the transition between post-crisis and New 52.
So my recommendations basically form a large GL storyline, which goes as follows:
The Death of Superman (optional)
Reign of the Supermen (optional)
Emerald Twilight
Infinite Crisis (optional)
Green Lantern: Rebirth
War of Light
Blackest Night
Brightest Day (semi-optional)
War of the Green Lanterns
Are the New 52 series sort of designed to be introductory? So if I'm new to comics, they would be pretty good? I grew up watching the JLA cartoons and the superhero movies and reading a few basic comics here and there so i know the origins of most mainstream heroes like GL, I just wanna see him kick some a** and get hyped about him.
@avenging_x_bolt: I think this makes Hal seem like a true space cowboy. And yeah I'm surprised we didn't get to see the new partner in this short.
