I think they're different means to tell a story. I for one love both Batman the Animated Series and loved the first 2 Nolan batman films. Although overall I do prefer realism in comics, but also consistency. If you are creating a world with fantastical elements at least keep the logic consistent within that world.
Realism, eh. I could care less if it's Greg Rucka Punisher real, or mini blue elfs stealing Wolverine's liquor real. As long as the story is good, i'll suspend my disbelief.
