Getting back into comics, looking for suggestions

It's been a long time since I read anything, or bought a book, but I received a tablet as a gift for Christmas and discovered comixology and love how easy it is to get comics on it. I grabbed some older stuff I liked, but now I want to to start reading newer books. The new XForce really interested me, for example. In the past I've really enjoyed Planetary (easily my favourite book), The Authority, Big Guy and Rusty, Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: No Man's Land, The Ultimates, and the Uncanny X-men (fav book when I was a kid).

Where do I go from here? What's new and good that may fit my tastes? The scary part about having so many titles at your finger tips is that it is incredibly overwhelming. I tend to prefer buying anthologies, volumes and graphic novels, as opposed to reading things one issue at a time as they come out (though I am not opposed to this).

So what you think??

Saga. Always go for Saga: it's brilliant. It's by Brian K. Vaughn, and only 8 issues in. You can probably also get the first 6 issues collected, too.

Totally love that a lot of first issues are free. Grabbed Saga and Y: The Last Man, going to give them a try tonight. Thanks for your advice so far, this should keep me busy!

Get Avengers, Captain America is kicking huge butt. Also, Journey into Mystery featuring Lady Sif.

Get Batwoman, and definitely pick up Wonder Woman!

Batman by Scott Snyder. Hawkeye by Matt Fraction. Saga by Brian K Vaughn.

Go for collections. Batman has a lot of good collections like such as The Long Halloween, Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, any Grant Morrison collection like Batman and Son and Batman and Robin. Most of the major heroes have collections that tell a pretty full story. Non-hero titles like such as Walking Dead, Fatale, American Vampire and such also have collections. Watch and wait for sales as well. Marvel and DC usually have $.99 specials every couple of months depending on what "EVENT!" they are currently entrenched in.

comixology has like hundreds of free comics I think so I would download those

the problem I found though is that downloading takes forever especially cause the downloads pause whenever you stop using the app or when the tablet goes into sleep mode. At least that's what I experienced on iPad, maybe it's different on other platforms. (and hey maybe they fixed it. This was like 5 months ago)

Thanks for the hot tips everyone. Grabbing some Astonishing X-Men as it's on one of those .99 cent sales, and it's written by Ellis, who I really enjoy. I'm going on a trip shortly and plan to consume lots of comics during the long travel times. I will report back my feelings on the books I've read and perhaps start a blog about my experiences.
