First Print Trade Paperback/Hardcover DC

Is there anyway to tell if a trade paperback/hardcover from DC is first printing from the outside of the cover. Do the ISBN numbers differ between printings? This would be helpful to determine if a book purchased from amazon will be first printing vs. a later printing. It would also make it easier to purchase sealed books in plastic wrap from the lcs, because often you are not able to open them before purchase and not able to return them after purchase... Thank you!
