The Avengers And Star Wars Unite In Patton Oswalt's Incredible Parks & Recreation Monologue

Watch Evil Dead Online

Director Rupert Wyatt has a couple of solid flicks behind him in 2008’s The Escapist and 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes , and his career is currently showing it, as he’s taking projects like the WWI love story Birdsong and the sci-fi action Agent 13, while dropping others, like adaptation of the 1980s TV show The Equalizer. So what are we to believe about this piece of enticing news?

Chernin Entertainment and Wyatt will reteam for the noir thriller Night Film, the upcoming novel from author Marisha Pessl. Chermin is a genre-flipper, having produced Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as well as the soon-to-be-released sci-fi thriller Oblivion and Paul Feig’s upcoming comedy The Heat. While Chernin has a deal with Fox, the film isn’t set up anywhere at the moment. Nor does it have a screenwriter yet.

Pessl, whose best-selling debut was 2006’s wicked fun mystery Special Topics in Calamity Physics, is releasing Night Film through Random House on August 20, 2013, and you can bet you’ll hear about it, even without the movie connection. Night Film focuses on Scott McGrath, an investigative journalist who looks into the suicide of a beautiful young woman, and finds things amiss. As it happens, the woman is the daughter of a reclusive horror director, and his possible involvement sets McGrath on a path to truth and vengeance. Murder, a horror director and a noir mystery, all wrapped up into what will hopefully be a stunning novel-- and is it too much to hope for a stunning film too?

Tom Hiddleston could make a career out of only playing Asgardian troublemaker Loki in future Marvel movies. He was the lynchpin holding The Avengers together. He’ll be a driving force in Thor: The Dark World later this year. And if he wanted to, I’m sure he could worm his way into The Avengers 2 in some shape or form. He’s just that good in that role.

But Hiddleston isn’t content to torment his half-brother Thor for the rest of his life, and so he’s locking down a juicy role in a pending biopic. Shortlist.com quotes Hiddleston as saying he’ll play famed war photographer Robert Capa in the film Capa, which will be directed by Paul Andrew Williams (Song for Marion, London to Brighton). Capa was a refugee run out of multiple European countries who took a firm stance against fascism. Hiddleston says of the role:

I look at [Capa’s] life and see it in heroic terms. A Hungarian kicked out of Hungary for writing against Fascism, he moved to Germany where he was kicked out for being Jewish, then he moved to France and from there began a life-long commitment to make a stand against forces of fascism. As a man he was fantastically charismatic, dynamic, vigorous, exciting and energetic, too. I plan to go to the places he lived, those places he visited, read books about him, study his photographs and, crucially, learn how he took them.”

Capa famously photographed major battle stages of World War II, including the Battle of Normandy on Omaha Beach as well as the liberation of Paris at the end of the global conflict. There’s no clarification as to which phase of Capa’s career the movie will follow – he also photographed and documented conflicts like the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and the First Indochina War. But we do know that Gemma Arterton is attached to the project, though when she joined on, she was set to appear opposite Andrew Garfield (who since has bailed)
