Eternity and The Infinity Gauntlet

Is Eternity's power equal to that of The Infinity Gauntlet? When Thanos battled Eternity with The Gauntlet, He beat him, but when Silver Surfer asked Adam Warlock who had won, Adam Warlock had said something, I forgot what, that leads me to believe that Thanos won only because he wanted to win more. It's been a while since I read the comic.

I believe it's more or less accepted that the Infinity Gauntlet is stronger than Eternity, but it depends on the user. If memory serves, Warlock (when he had the Gauntlet) casually dismissed Eternity and ignored his threats at one point.

I think originally it was supposed to be more powerful but in the later issues it was downgraded to eternity's level since in the story arc's afterwards the gauntlet would not work without eternity's approval.
