I think it s unfair to say 18 years as Kai IS a separate series

I have mixed feelings about this. The child inside of me squealed when I first heard the news, but with my hype comes some much-warranted skepticism.

Here's to hoping Toei doesn't ruin a large part of millions of peoples' childhoods.

Maybe he sees how well-received the films have been by fans and critics and just wants to give them what they want. It's not like he can't do other things as well, especially since he's not the only one working on the project. Little fan service never hurt nobody.

@kyrees: I know that but they had to re animate many of the scenes and it had a different flow as well. So it would be unfair to the people who put hard work on it to not recognise it.

I can feel the superman fanboys raging at the thought of DBZ having more seasons.

fans recognize kai as a recut z not as the new series of dragonball.

this is bittersweet as i feel its going to phase out GT , now before the pretenders and "cool kids" voice their opinion , im a dragon ball fan. db, dbz, gt, all the movies and tv special. all that good stuff. while gt opened with a lot of bizarre and quirky adventures , so did dragonball. dbz was more serious in tone and the most popular . im not going to deny that . but to me gt was one last good adventure and had a much better send off than the last episode of dbz

im not a fan with the apparent direction of the new transformations (every saiyan will be a different color?) in the newest movies . not really feeling vegeta's need for his armor instead of trying to assimilate with earth and its customs (yo son goku and friends, battle of gods, revival of f) and instead of passing on the legacy to the kids (gohan , goten, trunks) it seems the fate of the world rests in goku and vegeta's hands which led to GT unpopularity . the whole "let's just make them stronger" should have a limit and as i said im a fan but i like to see the kids carve out their own destiny instead of their fathers always winning . they are going into superman territory, in which even though there are a lot of great supporting characters only the most iconic one/leader will save the day over and over again. yawn.

@dbzk1999: actually goku has not won all the fights he has been in. and of the fights he won not all has he won by himself or someone else finished off the villain.

For example

21st Budokai: Kuririn only beats Bacterian because of Goku, then Yamcha & Kuririn lose easily to Chun. Goku loses too, but he certainly has a much better effort.

Red Ribbon Army: Kuririn and Yamcha make a decent effort in the first two rounds of Baba's tournament, but then Yamcha gets trashed by a dude who Goku one-shots and makes everything before that seem pointless.

22nd Budokai: Yamcha gets destroyed easily by Tenshinhan, while Kuririn gets to beat Chaozu and then literally made to look worse than Goku, and Tenshinhan couldn't even defeat Goku without some technically.

Piccolo Daimao; Kuririn and Chaozu are killed by villains who Goku kills, Yamcha does nothing, and Tenshinhan gets beaten up by a guy who Goku one-shots.

23rd Budokai: Half-dead Piccolo handwaves a blast that scares off all the supporting cast, only Goku can save the day.

Nothing is wrong with these types of examples (and this is the type of stuff that happens in the new movies also)

It's when it goes into what gt did that it's in superman territory

People didn't like gt because toei took that formula (goku saving the day) and amplified it to ONLY goku saving the day (like you said) THAT is superman territory (and what happens when toriyama isn't in control)

So I can agree with the superman territory (which is what gt was in) but that's not what the new movies are headin towards

@nefarious: I assume the Universes that Beerus brought up in BoGs. He talks about gods and fighters stronger than him, so seems likely.

Not really interested.

I've long since accepted that Toriyama simply isn't even a decent storyteller. This basically just serves as a nostalgia trip for old fans.

Hope they show off their power in this, instead of just giving them power ups with no new impressive feats like GT.

On paper, the premise sounds like the series would've bombed because of it's clear simplicity

But, IMO, it's the way toriyama executed it that makes people love it

Looks like it's almost time for some more Goku Vs Superman debates.

In RoF Goku and Frieza's hits in the air were creating a massive crater purely from shockwaves. Bills can blow up stars half asleep.

GT also had some good feats. A simple unrestrained power-up from Goten was pushing apart continents and according to Gohan was about to destroy the planet. Then later during Goku's fight with Super 17 he punched him so hard he went to the otherside of the planet.
