don't know what to read

So i want to read Avengers vs X-men but with all the hate it's getting i'm not sure plus there is quite a bit to read before hand (house of m,messiah complex,second coming) and well i'm not sure anymore but I've been keeping an eye on battle of the atom and it sounds pretty cool but will i get lost just jumping in or what do i have to read first but really i just want recommendation on good x-men events and stuff preferably in trades thanks for the help beforehand

oh and which of the three new series is the best so far? wolverine and the x-men - All new X-men and Uncanny x-men?

@evaghoul: I'd recommend reading Chris Claremont's X-men run. It's a must read for any X-men fan. If you just want some of the main events, buy Days of Futures Past, Phoenix and Dark Phoenix Saga.

Age of Apocalypse is another classic that is absolutely fantastic.

For the love of god, don't read AvX, it's awful. If you want a recent X-men event that's actually good, try Second Coming. BoTA wasn't any good.

Or hey, better yet, read a book. Try Slaughterhouse Five.

@kittyparker13I actually bought and read those over the past few weeks and they have been some of the greatest x-men stuff I've read thanks for the recommendation though

I don't like them because they're awful, not sure what you're getting at.

Gotta agree with Squares. X-men's not what it used to be.
