I thought he was the best peter parker we got on screen. He was really relatable and caring guy. Was really genuine to his aunt may and his best friend harry. Sure he didn't say a lot of jokes but to me he still got the core of the character right. Yet people bash him and call him emo, and a crybaby. smh, I don't get it
Does tobey maguire deserve all the hate
He didn't bitch out and quit everytime things didn't go his way. Had some doubts. Hung it up but like the hero he is he couldn't stay away.
I prefer Tobey over Andrew always.
No, not at all. He was a great Spider-Man and Peter Parker. It seems like the majority of people who don't like only feel that way because he was older looking, and didn't crack as many jokes as Andrew.
Yeah, I never got it.
Yeah, SM3 was a little much, but overall I thought he was a great Peter Parker/Spider-man. It's a shame how the trilogy ended, I would've loved for it to continue.
I don't see anything wrong with him. He's not the greatest actor, but he's not terrible by any means. Pretty much all the problems with SM3 were due to script, rather than acting, so I don't blame him for any of that (unless he also had a hand in writing it, which seems unlikely).

Exactly.
He was a bad. He wasn't funny, a staple of Spider-Man, he wasn't smart, another key aspect of Spidey. He was dull, too soft spoken, and Andrew puts him to shame.

This. But, I blame Raimi for this, obviously.
Tobey played a great Peter Parker. It's not his fault that the director basically screwed him over in SM3.
Honestly, I've always thought Tobey was the best Peter Parker, but Garfield is a better Spider-Man.
Jmarshmallow
@greatcaesarsghost: True, he was just following director orders.
Yes, he deserves it.
@spidey_jackson: Please tell me that what you said is a joke.
tobey was terrible. i was permanently inept. peter in the comics has always been confident even outside the suit. he had enough confidence to swindle jameson and stand up to flash and jameson all the time. he's also charismatic and sarcastic. thanks to tobey Comic book fans even forget peter is like andrew. peter is also a very flawed hero and a flawed person. tobey is just mister perfect. there was no moment of him making a mistake as a person nor even acted like something that didn't make him a nice person. he also mumbles so much i hardly tell what he's saying.
He didn't look the part or play a good Peter Parker.
Garfield played Peter Parker SOO much better, he looked the part, was attractive and funny... Tobey..? Yea not so much. Andrew played a much more humorous Spider-Man (which the fans probably enjoy more) and Tobey played a more serious Spider-Man. The love Tobey gets is all nostalgia anyway.. nothing really special otherwise.
@marvelman92: To be fair. Peter's balls didn't drop until he gained the ability to one-shot cars and dodge bullets.
So basically, he was the nerd who hit the gym and started mma.
Andrew played the part and he looks the park WAAYY better.
No maybe the writers, but blaming actor for playing a role that he didnt wrote and is doing his job is kind stupid.
Then again, I might be a lot less picky compared to a lot of ardent fans around. But hey you gotta admire how much passion people have over their favourite character.
Its a very respectable trait, which sadly i am lacking =(
In terms of acting 50/50
In terms of director's choices yes
Seriously, what was raimi thinking in spider man 2, peter letting that guy get mugged? Seriously? I know it's to show he's not spiderman but didn't realize peter forgot about police
Redone because you can't be missing out on the "Oval Shout" and "Orgasm Face"!
Great Gif.
I dont think he deserves hate.
If you dislike his work it ok, but hating a guy for being a bad actor its dvmb.
With the fact the police kill an afro american every 28 hours, the war on terrorism at least killed 300 000 civilians and other things going on, hating some one for being a bad actor its wrong and bad, there should be a stronger word for what hate its like badwrong or badong, yeah... hating its badong i will stand for the contrary of badong that is gnodab.
I hate how he photobombs every picture in the tabloids. I mean, can't I just look at a picture of a chair without that puffy, overly sensitive Leonardo accessory?
I really don't get why raimi wanted a cartoonish version of Peter Parker that stayed inept. He reminds me of his please tville counterpart
I enjoyed his performance, especially in Spider-Man 3. The highlight of the movie of Tobey strutting down the street.
@jmarshmallow: yeah, he deserves the hates he gets. Not only is he a jerk in real life but the guy was not peter Parker. Peter was never an emotionless wooden as shawks caricature of a nerd
