Does GOTG deserve an Oscar?

For couple of weeks now I have been hearing about it,people are like GOTG is the best movie of this year, should be nominated for Best Movie,Best Director etc.I mean really..yes it is one of the good movies marvel has delivered but I don't consider it to be that much great of a movie..It is a combination of comedy and visual affects nothing more,the one thing I loved about this movie was its CGI characters.Compare to it I think CA:WS did much better job.People are even comparing GOTG with Star Wars...Star Wars was a movie that changed Sci Fi movie genre and inspired many other movies. It is one of the true magic that Hollywood has provided us..so comparing GOTG with Star Wars is an insult to a timeless classic like SW.Even in visual effects its far below than Avatar.Although it is true Academy doesn't give much important to this particular genre, but I don't consider GOTG to be that much of an achievement to consider it for an Oscar, yes it was enjoyable(arguable) and has lot of success but not Oscar worthy there is far more powerful movies out there than GOTG.

What do you guys think.Should they consider GOTG for an Oscar.

It was a great movie, easily one of the best comicbook movies I've seen, and one of the MCU's best, but Oscar worthy? Probably not.

It's by far my favorite comic book movie, but I don't think it's really "Best Picture" material.

It was a fun movie, but I personally wouldn't put it up in Oscar nomination territory.

I literally just finished watching it a minute ago, it was fun, but not Oscar worthy.

Not for best picture or any of the other "big" awards, maybe something like best special effects or one of those types of awards.

Definitely deserves and will get some type of nomination for special effects or whatever.

Pacific Rim deserved similar recognition and didn't get it. Hollywood is biased against certain types of films.

Anyway, does it deserve one? Perspective is everything. Depends on what you think makes a film "award worthy".

It might take one of the technical awards, but otherwise no, it was enjoyable but no masterpiece.

But, think about this, the Shawshank Redemption is now near-universally considered a great movie, one of the best of the last 20 years and it tanked at the Oscars as well.

Exactly! They didn't shoot themselves in the foot with such a horrible character and they still didn't win. GotG has no chance

Yes, i feel the moments about Peters mom were underrated, they were well done, emotional, and made me cry

best picture and best screenplay go hand in hand basically. and gotg is not coming close to that, since the story was not that great.

Cap 2 or DOFP might have an outside shot, but I doubt it. This year's best picture nom is too strong.

@maccyd: emm...yeah. Star Wars is a SF Classic. Basicly everyone on our planet knows what SW is. Everyone can cite at least three quotes from that movie. And almost everyone loves SW. That's what i call Classic. None of the Star Wars movies are not masetrpieaces like One Flew Over Coockoo's Nest or Godfather but they are all Classic.

@maccyd:if you doubt that, then I don't think you are a fan of Sci Fi..Star Wars is the Godfather of all Sci Fi movies..It changed the way and film making of this particular genre. People took inspiration from that movie and still consider it as a measuring scale for sci fi movies..so any one doubt that SW is a classic probably not a fan of Sci Fi.
