My dad bashes on me for watching Justice League: Paradox, thinking it's for kids.
Does anyone in your family think that comics is silly?
@sacredweapons: or friends, doesn't need to be that spesific.

My freinds laugh at me for reading it. Then go on to talk about how they just got the newest black butler issue. But if I talk about the fact that they read manga they try to rip off my arm.
@sacredweapons: I really don't get why Manga is so huge... I read when i was like 9

Unfortunately comics aren't as diverse as manga if you count the big publishers. That's why I really like indie publishers and creator-owned ones because it can get really diverse that way. Manga is basically comics but you just read everything backwards - that's pretty much the main difference, otherwise they have similar aspects.
Biased Manga readers like to think that comics only has superheroes and villains (though that is a large majority), and biased comic readers like to think that Manga only has explosions, shounen, and fan service-y high school girls (though that is a large majority)
@retconcrisis: yeeeeeeeeeeah to me Manga is just a bunch of HADOUUKKEN and OVER 9000 lol

That's totally normal, considering the shounen genre (targeting the teenage boy audience) is the easiest to be popular with (the Big Three are all shounen - Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) because it requires less brain power and more ADRENALINE AND TESTOSTEROOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNE!!!!!1!!!111! Also shounen tend to last FOREVER, ranging from 70 to 300+ episodes (compared to average anime length of 11-26).
No, some of them used to until I showed them comics like Ten grand, Badass or TWD.......while I am a huge fan of the capes and powers genre I tell them there is something for everyone
@retconcrisis: i read OP to issue 50. I was pretty dumb back then

Look on the bright side, you're not as dumb as the people who've read past 700 chapters.
Honestly, it doesn't matter...everyone has the right to do whatever they want with their lives...read comics...watch porn...running 10 miles on foot...get drunk...whatever...
The problem, is if the ones who do it, are the ones who you give you Money to buy them...lol...now, THAT, can be a problem... :p

Lel.
the cartoon with the alcoholic batman, the homsexual reference and beheading/gore?
Both of my parents. They think that comic books are childish and that they are not educating me at all and are separating me from the real world. They think that I won't become successful in life because I read too much comic books and I am not studying enough.
Well the Studying thing maybe true.(Depends on what you want to be)
@nickthedevil: the movie, actually lol.
@retconcrisis: there... there's 700???

The thing is that I am studying really hard. I mean I have only A's at school and at the tougher subjects I have B's. I would get and be okay with what they are saying if it actually was true.
Also I want to become a writer or a journalist.

Pssh, 700, that's nothing. Hajime no Ippo is 1,000+ chapters of nothing but BOXING... a ton of it is just fight scenes with no text.
And then there's frickin' Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo with 1,700+ chapters of comedy.
A lot of people find them silly, but who is going to judge me, my brothers, my dad or my mom? We are all one family and we are all in better shape than everyone else in our collective family.
While I dont look like this, this picture represents my family.
I honestly think comics are crazy and ridiculous - we're all reading books, panels and texts of men and woman in tight, with the abilities to defy gravity, fire beams of energies from their hands, and manipulate elements, and they all think they're above the law - and we're complete nerds and geeks on this stuff, and, and... that's why I love it so much :)

@theamazingspidey: exactly!
Thankfully, my family is very supportive of my hobbies and what not. I'm 18 in less than a month and I collect comics, action figures, heroclix, etc. and my parents don't judge me at all. They want whatever makes me happy.
My dad thinks comics are for kids still, but thats about me even recommended some for my mum and brother tor ead which they both enjoyed. None of my friends are too bothered about me reading comics. They can't be bothered to read things but we are all nerds.
My sister.
The same sister who altered her Monopoly board game to create a Harry Potter themed version and has get-togethers with her friends and play her Hogwarts-Monopoly invention/mutation. She then posts photos on Facebook of her and her friends in those house colour scarves playing the game.
She thinks comics are geeky.
