Roman gods are based on planet worship, the Romans took characteristics of the Greek gods and added to theirs.

What the Romans did for us was to encourage Godliness on a grand scale.

You were spoilt for choice. Far from destroying the beliefs of conquered countries, they were actively encouraged - and in many cases absorbed. The Romans just couldn't have enough Gods. In fact sometimes they appear to have invented some for special occasions.

They gave the Greek pantheon a major makeover and fancy Latin names. The major deities were built up into the Planet Suite: Mars, Venus, Jupiter, etc. A good means of identification. We've attempted to point out the Greek vs Roman equivalents and hopefully haven't missed out too many.

Most of the Latin words still in use today seem to have a God connected to them. Discipline = DISCIPLINA, Fauna = FAUNUS, and Fortune = FORTUNA. Just add an 'a' or an 'us' to the end of a Latin word and see what God you get. With the romantic Romans, the more Gods the merrier. And some of their Gods could be very merry indeed.

Meanwhile, in Tuscany, sandwiched between Greek and Roman dynasties, the Etruscans or Etrurians seemed to have lived life to the full if their frescoes and artifacts are anything to go by. Which is pretty much all we can do as Etruscan remains a dead language.(source:http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/roman-mythology.php).

Roman God Lucifer

He is the 'Bearer of Light' and God of the Evening Star and Morning Star.

Under the Greeks he was the gleaming God PHOSPHEROS, which predates Judaism and Christianity.

Lucifer is also a Canaanite Gods.

Shachar is known as the God of the Morning Star. Today we would know it as the planet Venus that we see in the morning just as the sun begins it climb into the sky. He is also a war God, and the lord of the dawn. He is mention briefly in the holy bible in Isaiah as the father of Helel the Light-Bringer. In the current King James version of the bible, Shachar is translated as the dayspring. It is unknown when he worshiped, but Shachar is part of the Ugarit pantheon. The city was existed from 1450 BCE to 1200 BCE which ended in the migration conquest of the Sea-Peoples.His StoryĒl came to shores of the sea and saw two woman who bobbed up and down. Ēl was sexually aroused and took the two with him, killed a bird by throwing a staff at it and roasted it over a fire. He asked the women to tell him when the bird is fully cooked, and to then address him either as husband or as father, for he would thenceforward behave to them as they call him. They salute him as husband. He lies with them and they gave birth to Shachar 'Dawn' and Shalim 'Dusk'. SourcesArora, N. (2011, April). It's fairly well known among even casual fans of Roman history that the Romans would basically conquer a people and add their gods to the roman religion.

@rd189: @powerherc: Romans worshiped celestial bodies(like planets,stars)...They too the Greek gods and added to their Gods.

Like PHOSPHEROS who the Roman's renamed Lucifer, personification of Venus. Not mention he was a War God.

This discussion has brought us to in a roundabout manner to the topic of this essay - who is Lucifer? Firstly, Lucifer in his physical form is the planet Venus. When viewed from the Earth, the planet Venus doesn't stray far from the Sun as the furthest it can be seen is about 45° of arc on either side. When the planet Venus appears to the left of the Sun, it is the most beautiful star in the heavens during the evening. The Sun will set first leaving Venus in the sky shining extremely bright. When Venus conjuncts or opposes the Sun she disappears and then reappears on the right side of the Sun and visa versa. When Venus appears to the right of the Sun it is no longer the Evening Star as it now will rise before the Sun being a beautiful star in the morning or the Morning Star.

The ancient Greeks believed Venus to be two separate entities although ancient astrologers probably knew differently. In the Greek religion, the planet Venus was not associated with the goddess of beauty and love Aphrodite (Roman-Venus) although the association is appropriate. The Greeks gave the day star the name Eosphoros or Phosphorus which in Latin translates to Lucifer. The evening star Hesperos was Vesper in Latin. Hesperos was the son of Atlas and the goddess of the dawn Eos. Eosphorus was the son of Astreus and Eos, who also gave birth to the Four Winds. The Greeks often portrayed Phosphorus as winged with a torch leading his mother Eos's chariot.

Therefore, to recap, the planet Venus appeared in the morning to the ancients it was known as Phosphorus in Greek and Lucifer in Latin. Lucifer is derived from Lucem - light and Ferre - to bring, meaning the light bringer. In order to piece this puzzle together properly, one must understand that the darkest point of the night is just before dawn. When the planet Venus rises before the Sun, it is the brightest light in the sky at the darkest time of the day making, Venus or Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness. What does the Prince of Darkness say to us? He says the light or enlightenment is coming - to wake up and to sleep no more. The question bears to be asked why would something that brings you illumination be bad? It is interesting to note that the time after the Roman Empire collapsed and Christianity took over Europe they entered the Dark Ages(source:http://www.soulbody.ca/article23.html).
