Since Tuesday, with all the early reviews on Batman 17 I've been reading nothing but praises about this particular arch. I got Jokered out actually. I was happy for the end, but I read a post on here from of it's users showing how he was displeased with the arch. I did like issue 17, Iiked the whole arch, but I still agreed with the users displeaure. He went on and gave his opinions of this and he was right. The Death of a Family arch was advertised as being a Joker story that raises the level (what ever the level actually is) between Batman and Joker. The story did not do that. It was a good story but it was nothing that hasn't been done before or said before.

We know that Joker doesn't want Batman dead til HE wants him dead and by his hands only. That's old news. Now we also know, and this has been debated so we actually got an answer most of us figured already. Well......2 answers..........Now we know Joker doesn't know who Bats is. What ever. The shocking ending by it not being shocking was WEAK!!!

When I opened the issue and saw them sitting around in the cave I thought the Joker DID know who Batman really was, and that blew me away a little. Then when we thought that he might have cut their faces off I almost shit my pants. This is comics remember. This could have been done and the family would have been fine the next issue. If Batgirl can walk again, why not put a face back on. Husk looked just Bruce Wayne for how many issues?

I wanted this to happen. I wanted to see the Joker actually do this the Batmans family. THIS WOULD HAVE RAISED THE LEVEL. This would have made Joker more insane then we could have ever imagined, and like I said.....It's comics. They would have been fine. But the stories that could have come from this. How the Bat family would have had to cope with this. A lot of good stories. No tho. We got not shocking for shocking sake and it bombed. I don't get. Is there something I missed.

The whole Batman loves Joker more then his family flew right over my head too. It came off more like like Joker wants a bat cock in his Joker hole. Batman isn't gay for Joker, he's just stubborn and wants all the answers and Joker is the one guy who has left him stumped onto who he is. I know Snyder is getting a lot of prasied, and well deserved. Especially after "The Black Mirror" and "Court of Owls" but DC fucked up when they advertised it the way they did instead of just saying the Joker was back. That's all we Bat fans needed. Not any false hopes which I feel like I got. Next time cut their faces off.

Cutting faces is too bloody, maybe Joker should just cut some foreskins.

Well...
1: I think the fake cutting off of faces was PERFECT for the Joker.  Think about it... It was a JOKE.  To him, it was incredibly funny.  You have to remember that he is NOT sane.  He's not out for power or money or revenge...  This is just fun to him.  So, the face thing was literally just a prank or joke.
2: When he spoke of how The Bat loved him more than the Bat Family, it was in NO WAY intended to imply a romantic and physical love.  It was more metaphoric.  Again, he's just having his sick twisted distorted joke.

I agree the very ending was a bit weak, and that explanation that Bruce gave Alfred seemed extremely weak.  "I showed the joker who I was once and he didn't look at me because he didn't WANT to know who I was because it would have ruined his fun."    I do believe the Joker would be like that; I do believe he COULD know the true identity of Batman but doesn't want to know it.   What I find weak about it is this, "Why the smurf couldn't Batman had shared this information with the rest of the Bat Family?"  How was that supposed to be a deep dire secret?  What,?  He couldn't say, Hey guys, the Joker COULD have known who I was, but he doesn't want to....   Why couldn't he have done that?  It makes not sense.  And to pull that out at the very end, as if that explained ANYTHING is just... well.. weak...

HOWEVER, like you, I LOVED the story, and I loved the Joker in it.  And like you, I was tired of him by the end.... but I think that's okay...  Overall, I thought it was a great story... The ending just needed some tweaking...
