Anime/manga vs comics are not ok at all.

Because the DBZ franchise focuses way too much on ridiculous powerscaling and less on feats while other franchises put more basis on feats. If that makes sense.

If you ask me any cross-platform should not be allowed. It just doesn't work on a debate we are trying to do seriously. Kirby vs. Superman thread is just doesn't work.

@shihan: DBZ vs Marvel and DC had too many flame wars without real discussion, just insults flying back and forth. Marvel and DC are both western comics which is what this forum was originally dedicated towards. AnimeVice (the anime equivalent of this site) banned Super family vs DBZ, this site banned DBZ altogether initially (no Goku vs Hulk, no Goku vs Superman). DBZ would tend to attract less rational debate, though they're slowly lifting the bans.

It also clogged the board from what I've heard.

Because Screw Attack rustled a lot of DBZ fans' jimmies.

I do agree with you tbh, there are very decent dbz debaters on this site, its just the lurkers come out and start trolling with goku solos etc etc. But i see your point.

It's because DBZ v Western Comics generally leads to flame wars. Sure other things like Speedsters can be pretty bad but the DBZ flamewars were ridiculous. The bans are getting slowly lifted but it is unlikely that Goku v Superman will ever be allowed.

As far as I remember, the reason for it is because of how vicious both sides can be in arguments that come along, and it's mainly down to how both sides might perceive levels of power. Usually, Comic vs Comic battles are easily comparable because the way feats are presented. They kind of use a series of comparisons and explanations to convey to the audience the general magnitude of what had just happened on panel, and those that aren't explained can be typically analysed and scientifically compared with enough evidence.

With DBZ and a lot of other Manga, especially Shonen, it mainly comes down to transitive property or ABC Logic, which isn't inherently flawed, but difficult to compare. As an example, during a section of the Manga, there's a moment where Goku and Piccolo Jr are fighting so quickly, Kami is unable to see them with his eyes. For most this would be enough, 'God can't see these two, for they are so fast'. The thing is, as an immediate outsider I have no idea what Kami is capable of, by comparison. As far as I know, he could be God in name only, especially considering that on the cosmic scale of things, Kami and the other Guardians are essentially on the very bottom rung as far as deities are concerned.

In both cases when setting up battles between something of the same medium, it's made easier because the evidence presented is similar enough to compare. When crossing over, however, the evidence is different enough where both sides might ask 'ok, so how does that apply to character X?' which is where, I believe, the hang up starts.

It doesn't help that there seems to be this inherent dichotomy that's not too dissimilar to the Console wars, or a watered down version of bringing up Religion on the internet: while the majority will be able to see and appreciate both sides of an argument, the more 'steadfast, take one side and bite off the head of any who might disagree' folks are remarkably more vocal. So, visibly, we can only really see the vocal ones, which leads us to assume the majority are just that bad and it continues to spiral onwards.

In short... it's not a particularly easy topic to move towards, and for the sake of maintaining calm discussion, there have been bans in the past, and I believe there still continues to be. There will always be raging fanboys on any side for any creative work ever, it's can't be helped.

Anime is just a bunch of claims but hardly any feats. Like you have characters that claim they can blow up a solar system but they never do it

Because a army of dbz fans show up saying

• "Goku will blwo up the planet superman will die"
• "Goku will catch thors hammer"
• "Goku will resist MMH tp"
• "Bobidi will mind control the COIE anti-monitor"

That you have to ask why suggests you haven't read the rules. If you haven't read the site rules, then read them and know. If you have questions about them, then PM a person who actually knows, like a moderator instead of asking people who often do not know but like to pretend they do.
