I mean no offense, but I don't understand the math here. Marvel has been the industry leader for close to two years running. Due to that it stands to reason they have more capitol saved and are ahead of DC comics by far, and one could say it reflects basically in the fact that they have more resources to put out more books, as well that they didn't have to resort to scrapping their entire line spontaneously to save themselves from bankruptcy. But, you just on the month of January, and DC/WB did do a great job in advertizing themselves. In fact they invested a ludicrous amount in that marketing, and as a result, didn't actually make the numbers they needed to make up for what they invested and instead are in debt now as a company, and quickly resorting to making spontaneous shifts once again, changing titles and the talent working on them after just about a handful of issues, and going as far as to change their own company logo, despite it's being the one that was attached to their recent published/online/videogame/syndicated television/theatrical advertizing campaign and New 52 relaunch? But all that aside they still outsold Marvel in the month of January and that's nice for them...." However, Marvel still pulled out a victory in dollar share, coming in at 35.17% compared to DC's 33.55%." Oh. Wait. Doesn't that mean that Marvel made more money than DC in the month of Jan.2012? And that again by math, Marvels books made more money then this list of top ten books of DC's? What does " outsell " mean? As usual and to each their own, but I don't put a lot of faith in the announcements of Diamond Distributors since they're " news " is actually advertisement to get people to buy more of their product overall, and really, why push what already is selling, and not IGN either, more specifically because DD pays IGN and incentive every year. I want to note right now too, that DD in particular, but also DC rigged there own numbers. You see since the #1 issues they required retailers to purchase a maximum number of units of all they're comics. And the numbers represented here are the number of units retailers purchased over all, not the actual numbers that sold, hence the profit margin difference. Also not the number of books the retailers have to send back, of which DD and DC already have given retailers special incentives, as they know by projection there will be many returned. I love DC's comics, I really do. Personally I may even be enjoying them more than the titles Marvel puts out. But I really just like comics. Maybe that's why I have a lack of a need for fanism? DC is not above Marvel in sales, and due to Marvel having led the industry for so long it will be a long time before they actually reach said point. It doesn't make DC any worse. Really, the entire medium is having struggles right now, then again so is the world economy so it's a given. At the end of the day, both DC and Marvel do well enough anyways, and the continuance of both is essential to the longevity of the craft itself. But personally I worry more for DC in that regard right now, and this inaccurately titled bit of numbers really doesn't help my optimism there either. Everyone's free to what they wish on this though, don't mind me other than understanding I have my own view.
