DC needs to step their game up!

I loved the new 52 when they first came out, but now I feel that almost every story has weakend (accept for Batman and Swamp Thing of course). So now, I am sad to admit that I am going to quit reading most of the DC series of comics now :( I feel like I'm betraying my favorite group of heroes, but their stories aren't that good now. Plus with the big event Marvel is having, which is kind of like the new 52, I'm goint to start reading their comics.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE NEW 52 STORYLINES IN THE COMMENTS.

actually, Im getting really excited. It's like the dawn before the sunrise. You think everything is really calm but then out of nowhere BUM BAM BAM BOOOOM

something like that. But yeah, Im gonna try to get some Marvel going on too when NOW comes out

Well, I can only comment on the books I do read, and as of now, i read 10 new 52 titles. Of those, I feel only Action is not near as good now as it was when it started (but I still like it) Superman, Detective and Legion of Super-Heroes I read out of brand loyalty, but none are that good. (Save for the first 2 issues of Detective.) I think Batman, Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, are all really good. The rest that I read (Legion Lost, Earth Two) have been good enough. Wonder Woman benefited the most from where the book was quality-wise. (Sadly, not in sales as much)

I have been reading Batman which have been good and I am glad they moved on from the court of owls and am excited to see the villains they put in now. Justice League has been very good and enjoyable. I have liked the flash very much too. Action Comics is still good but not as good as since they started.

I have been enjoying every single book on my pull list, the REALLY good ones being.

-Animal Man
-Swamp Thing
-Everything related to Batman (except TDK which has drastically improved with a new writer and Detective Comics which will be getting a new writer soon as well)
-Action Comics
-I Vampire
-JLD
-Demon Knights
-Teen Titans
-Super Girl
-Superboy
-All Green Lantern titles except Red Lanterns, which I'm not reading
-Earth Two

I could go on, but the fact is, a majority of the New 52 is fantastic, only a few of them are meh, and even fewer actually bad.

Batwing has had a very good first arc. The second arc is good, but highlights other characters. Thankfully, it ends next week.

Maybe the third arc, beginning in October, will be better.

@The Stegman:How would you say I, Vampire is? Should I read it?

And why no red lanterns?

@jwalser3: I vampire is really, REALLY good, but I suggest reading Justice League Dark too as they crossed over at one point. And I don't read Red Lanterns simply for price reasons, I read 32 titles currently, I can't afford any more....I barely eat as it is.

The GL titles, Earth-2, and JLA are still good. I'm trying to get into The Ravagers and waiting on the Aquaman trade to get into that and if you're not reading Red Hood and the Outlaws you don't know what you're missing.

Prior to the New 52 i only read Detective Comics & Green Lantern. Once the new 52 started I looked into the relaunch but now i've gone back to Detective Comics & Green Lantern only again.

I'm still reading Batman, Nightwing, Flash, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. I was reading Action Comics and Green Lantern as well, but I dropped those recently.

I don't feel like the quality of the stories I've been reading have declined (although the most recent issue of Aquaman was disappointing) but from what I've heard, there have been a lot of quality declines in some books.

I heard Red Lanterns is terrible, and that I Vampire is really good.

Titles I personally recommend?

  • Batman
  • Batman and Robin
  • Nightwing
  • Animal Man
  • Earth 2
  • Aquaman
  • Flash
  • Wonder Woman
  • Green Lantern
  • Action Comics
  • Justice League (Kinda. It's been on and off)

@MurieC16: How long have you been reading comics?

#19 Posted by MurieC16 (68 posts) - 10 months, 24 days ago - Show Bio

Like 3 years....I'm kinda new, but not really lol

DC has been doing fine since the New 52. Really the only complaints I've heard are from disgruntled fanboys. As a longtime Marvel reader who never gave DC a shot, I have to say I'm enjoying the hell out of it along with other new readers to the DCU.

The area DC needs to step up in is in the cinema...

@MurieC16: Well my friend, get very used to re launch stories, ret-conned characters and generally poor story lines from time to time.

Now, i hope you are not comparing Marvel to DC right now, because DC is wayyyyy better currently. AvX is has not been very good to much action not enough story. There are some great books in Marvel right now, but DC at least right now is a little better.

I look forward to DC books each month more than Marvel right now. The books I read are-

  • Batman
  • Aquaman - best book besides Batman
  • Flash
  • Green Lantern
  • Justice League
  • Wonder Woman
  • I, Vampire - this book is amazing, very underrated
  • Swamp Thing
  • Action Comics
  • Superman (out of hope and loyalty)
  • Nightwing
  • Animal Man
  • The Dark Knight - this has gotten very good with the new creative team starting at issue #10
  • Earth 2

You really just gotta jump in and give a bunch a try. If you read digitally, its not hard to give things a try since the prices drop each month.

I've dropped a LOT of titles as of late...I'm really not impressed by the quality.
