Notice how nine out of the ten superheroes they've listed are Marvel copying DC? DC was even the first to become popular with superhero movies with Batman and Superman, before Marvel decided to follow suit. So, no, the DC cinematic universe isn't copying Marvel, its the other way around.

There are plenty of other Marvel characters I can name that rip off of other superheroes. Sentry was a knock-off Superman, Captain America was a knock of off The Shield by Archie. They even have the EXACT same origin story...

@dagmar_merrill: I would actually argue that he is more like the DC character Triumph.

Not just Marvel or DC, all comic book companies in the world copy each other all the time. Personally i don't see anything wrong with it as long as stories are original & are good.

Everyone copies from everyone else, the characters haven evolved enough to be different and interesting on their own.

DC is older, so any comparison of characters is going to seem as if Marvel copies more. It's not so much characters, I think each company borrows styles and most importantly, artist and writers from each other. Example: Wolfman and Perez had both been at Marvel (and done some stuff together) for around a decade before they did the Teen Titans. So when the two went to DC and did the Teen Titans, of course the Teen Titans felt a bit like a Marvel book. It was being made with what had been Marvel talent just a few years earlier.

Btw, am I the only one who noticed the connected between female Thor and Wonder Woman?

1) They are both connected to mythology.

2) Both female

3) Both feminists

4) Both advertised as part of the company's "Big three".

You should read Ken Penders's run in the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics. Sometimes, he doesn't even bother to change the name. Like "Spectre" the Echidna, an echidna with supernatural powers that wears a cape and is often surrounded by smoke.

Brainiac and Ultron are not even close to being the same, both in motivation and appearance.

Ironman and batman are all nitpicks plus Ironman doesn't have gadgets.

DC does it just as much

Aarkus 1940, Human torch 1939/1961, Multiple Man 1975, Hulk 1962

There's no original ideas left anyway. All anyone can do is tweak already existing concepts.

@micah: Honestly, it varies from "so bad its good" to "So bad its horrible", with some uncanny valley thrown in. Many people draw humor from the fact that the Echidnas are so unoriginal and they all look like Knuckles, in Knuckles' miniseries. But then there are parts that aren't that bad.

But if you want a good comic read, then you should start with the rebooted Sonic Archie Comics or with Sonic and Mega Man World's Collide, which started the reboot.. At this point, most of the continuity problems are erased, the writing is much better, and the world is all around closer to the games, SatAM, and Adventures of Sonic. Some of the previous continuity still exists in the reboot, but its a good starting point. Especially since Sonic Comic Origins explains most of the new continuity's past. I'd also recommend reading most of the pre-reboot Sonic Universe books, especially the Shadow Saga and Treasure Team Tango, since Pirate Plunder Panic and Shadow Fall continues that story-arc, post-reboot. Also, read Sonic Genesis, which sets up the crossover and the reboot. There are also some other Sonic Universe story-arcs that were aborted with the reboot, but are still a good read, The Tails Adventure, Babylon Rising, Secret Freedom, and The Chaotix Quest. Mobius 25 and 30 Years Later were started by Ken, but finished by Ian, and you can see how Ian improved the series. What started out as a soap opera-y plot about family responsibility and stuff, turned into a dark and awesome action comic about time travel.

Not to mention that back in the 60's & 70's writers would write one issue for DC the another for Marvel then maybe another one for local news paper strip... Most comic writers and artists were freelancers who got paid by the pages not for quality or originality.

So it's no small wonder if some comic character have VERY similar traits... You'd job it too if you would get paid measly 15c/page.

@superadam: They don't copy they get inspiration and then they look at it and say what would I do with a character with that power set in this universe. Personally I find Thanos infinitely more intriguing than Darkseid ever was.
