I don't like when Hollywood change the ethnicity of superheroes, but this time it's a good idea IMO. There aren't many asian characters on tv and would be interesting to see an asian american actor as the protagonist. Think about it, a lot of people loves manga and anime, a lot of people watch oriental movies. In my opinion the public it's ready for an asian superhero.
Daniel Danny Rand should be asian american?
Him being a causasian man is sort of intrinsic to his origin last time I checked. Also, there are plenty of films with Asian protagonists, just not in the US....you know, because white people are the majority there.
I agree, but we also need more no-white heroes.
His story is the ultimate outsider story. Here we have a master of Kung Fu that throws all stereotypes to the side.
@cattlebattle: I'm white and I love oriental movies. Park chan Wook, Takeshi Kitano, Miike, Bong Joon-ho, the legendary Akira Kurosawa etc etc
I've previously said I wouldn't care, but having thought about it a lot, Danny needs to be white as much as Luke needs to be black.
@jonny_anonymous: Well I think being an asian american and living in Asia make him an outsider as well. His dynamic with Luke Cage would be the same, instead of "Black angry man vs arrogant white bilionaire" would be "poor vs rich"
Exactly. There's nothing groundbreaking about an Asian Martial-Artist.
Personally, I still think Spider-Man should be Asian.

Yeah...the high-school nerd with the talent for physics should be Asian.
Man, this thread is like stereotype parade :P
@scouterv: Spiderman is a classic character, there's no motive because he should be asian. Iron Fist on the other hand is a stereotypical character. The american blonde guy who becomes more powerful than an entire dynasty of chinese warriors. Plus, what's wrong with "Asian do kung fu"? I mean, it's an awesome tradition of the oriental culture, like the samurai and the dragons. I don't think it's offensive, it's cool.

Batman should be Black.
@squalleon: Can someone explain what's wrong with Kung Fu? I mean, this is not an offensive stereotype like "Italians are gangsters" or "Black people likes chicken" or "Jewish are misers". There are a lot of manga based on martial arts; Dragonball, Naruto, One Piece, Inuyasha, Ranma, Saint Seiya etc etc.

So we can joke about him being; "the really dark knight"?

It's not a stereotype if it's true. :p
It's a positive trait that people just so happen to have.

Stereotypes are still stereotypes and they became boring at some point because you end up seeing the same character again and again. Making Danny asian, would literally make him another Asian martial artist. It would take away his background as the odd man out, that made him unique.
Its like DC making Aquaman brunette...oh wait.

OK, let me just say, as a Black person yes I like chicken. I also like lamb, beef, pork, but my favorite meat is fish.
I've never actually seen this as an offensive thing, because I can't think of a group of people that don't like chicken.
Also, I can't think anyone except POSSIBLY Sango that uses Martial Arts in Inuyasha.
While we're at it lets make john Stewart white
Lets reboot hulk and make bruce Canadian
Lets make superman a saiyan too...for the lols
@masterkungfu: nothing, but iron fist is white
I don't see why he can't be in Iron Fist.
netflix has standards
I really wouldn't care if Luke Cage was black or not.Don't bother.Blacks aren't the only ones that stay in Harlem.
And people who don't read comics, you think they know who the hell Iron Fist is.???It's not like he has a solo all the time.
Yes, he absolutely should. Iron Fist being white is nothing but cultural appropriation and Orientalism.

I got this.
@squalleon: black men can't be Batman. They're too busy robin'
.........I'm going to hell for that
As an Asian-American, I love this. We don't have any Asian-American heroes on tv, why not give us Iron Fist? Freaking white people culturally appropriating everything.

That's totally wrong, that isn't what Iron Fist is about. It's about Danny being taught a better way to live by a new culture. He's not even "the most powerful" either, Fat Cobra, The Thunderer and Prince of Orphans could all kick his ass and Sparrow and Steel Serpent are his even. Also Danny's cultural clash with Luke Cage is that he's a well meaning but total air headed rich white dude trying to make an impoverished and mostly black neighborhood better by beating people up and not realising how kinda messed up that is until Luke Cage shows him.

I sense some hostility in this post(towards white people.) If Iron Fists ethnicity changed he would not belong to you, why is he yours if he is Asian? Anyway changing Iron Fist is stupid, if they want an Asian character make a new one or throw an already existing one(Shang Chi) in the show.
