Con coverage smugness

This weekend is Dragoncon and PAX and I watched some coverage on Youtube by various gaming/comic/toy/geek culture sites like IGN, Gizmodo etc and I noticed something. Several reporters were going round like they were "too cool for all this" Everything around them was a potential subject of derision as if they were embarrassed to be there. I can understand your average reporter complete failing to see the point of a show like Dragoncon, comics, toys, cosplay and all that. But if you write for a specialist site, don't pretend you don't really care or that it's a free ticket to behave like a rude frat boy who is there to deconstruct everything in a manner amusing only to himself.
