I hate books. Half the reason I love comics is because of the beautiful art.

Something about this topic makes me want to see Geoff Johns get in to writing novels and try to retcon the Bourne Identity.

I find both attractive. The advantage of comics is that it's half-way toward the movie genre, but cheaper to produce than a film - you still get to read text, but it's a lot easier to understand what's happening with the help of the images. The advantage of a book, though, is that it can be a lot lengthier, so it can delve deeper into aspects like descriptions and character development.

It's easier to read comics, so I'll go with comics better than books.  (I'd rather avoid a lynching - we are debating in a comic forum, right?)

for me comics cuz even if it is a bad comic you only wasted about 30 mins, if it is a bad book then you wasted several hours (assuming you finish it).

Quick read: Comics
If I have time: Books, big graphic novels.

I like to read things in one single go if i'm immersed, not little pieces all the time.

While there are awesome comics that I'd rank as highly as some great literature, the best novels go way beyond anything in comic form for me, and I only judge by entertainment value and not any "writing technique" .

I think I prefer books, but I'm more likely to like any given comic. In other words, the best books are best, but the worst books are worst.

@Cezar_TheScribe:
Digital? Are you talking about the medium, because I thought this was a discussion about the form. While the experience may be different for some (not me so much) the same book (or comic) in print and on an e-reader has the same content either way and doesn't add or detract from the work. Or maybe I'm miss understanding you?

I don't think we should discern between the two...

Because that would mean that I haven't read a book :(

Ebooks are not books. They should cost as much has a book.

Making them cheaper is taking money away and it's just not right.

You might as well call it file sharing.

People shouldn't say which one is better, because it's impossible to even say that. Both have their advantaging and disadvantages and I'll list a few.

Comics

- portray cartoons better than books. I mean a spongebob comic will be better than a novel because the comics can capture a spongebob story better .

-Comics are usually fast past because their written that way.

- Comics have Art

-the adventure never ends

Disadvantage-You can't put so much dialogue in a page because it'll cram the pages.

Books-

don't have to wait monthly

You get the whole story here and now with the book

disadvantage- I can't really think of any.The only thing is that maybe people find books boring and they are turn off by a wall of text.

With a comic, if I know 1/3rd of the way through the story that I'm not going to like it, I finish it anyhow. If I'm a 1/3rd of the way through a novel and don't like it, I stop. So at least comics, due to their form, (and length) keep me to the end of the story. I'd love to see some of my favorite novels put in comic form. Not so sure I want my favorite comic-story lines turned into novels.

Books and comic books cater to different needs. Books are for those who like to read text and love to stimulate imagination with words. Comic books (better called pamphlet, since a comic is not really a book unless it's bigger like a graphic novel) have a visual interpretation to go with the story. You sometimes appreciate the art itself, from cover to artwork. And it's a quicker read. Both are good stuff.

I prefer comics. One of the main reasons being the art. That, and It's just hard for me to find the time to really read a novel.

Depends on your mood, takes a more concentrated mind to read a book but once you get to it it's like devoting yourself, needs more time too. Aw f@ck it, comics.

They're too different to compare. Comics can portray action better but books can portray the mind of a character better, they each have their own advantages and disadvantages.

@xwraith: Well the average book is about 20 average comics, so it's not really the best to compare them one-to-one.

Comics are nice, though. I like the blend of art and story.
