p.s. if I am going to be doing callouts each month based on the participants of last month plus the "usual suspects" so if you want to be removed from this list or added to this list let me know...

@the_poet: you liked the hearts huh? What did you think about their preformance in their comics? I was very impressed with stargirl. More so last month when despero trashed her house and she was like "now I'm going to kick YOUR @$$, YOU BIG PINK FREAK!" Lol

I was also pretty amazed with catwoman in FE the way she was dodging bizarro's fire breath and just all the humour shes brought into FE.

And supergirls friendship with siobahn, wow...

Thanks for your help. First time taking part in this thread.

Is there still time left to vote?

yeah, I can leave this open since I know you are planning on voting. so whenever you get a chance. I can leave this open till at most saturday morning but then I have to lock this and post the results. so until this thread is locked you can vote. I ignore the deadlines but they are no fun. I am more interested in allowing people to voice their opinions than in silly deadlines.

@time I'm glad you got to vote :) oh, you said in your post that you don't read Indie comics but you listed Witchblade and Trish out of Water. We count any publisher which is not under the offical DC or Marvel label (even stuff like Vertigo) as Indie Comics. I suppose we have a loose definition of "Indie comics" but I just never liked my predecessor in hosting's "Non-DC or Marvel" title (thought it was sort of disrespectful to the other smaller publishers), plus it gives underrated titles like from Vertigo a place stand out where as if they were placed in DC they might not be seen in the final five even though Vertigo is just and offshoot of DC. Just thought I should mention that in case you want to add to your indie comics section.

@enigmalantern thank you for your assistance

@the_poet: Well Witchblade is Top Cow and Trish out of Water is Aspen MLT, So that's why I didn't put them under Indie comics.

I think Non Marvel/DC comics is a better title. I mean some people may not want to vote in Indie comics category, cause they may think it just for those comics.

@time: I don't think that catagory getting lower number of votes compared to DC or Marvel's categories has anything to do with a misconception about its title. I have a year of stats before the change and a year after the change and I personally see no difference. In fact, I'm willing to bet if someone was courageous enough to count the number of votes before and after that we have gotten more after, but that fact has nothing do with the title. Historically, this poll has been DC dominated since its inception (look at the Best of the Month Poll Archive and see when each catagory was added you can plainly see how it leans toward DC). I mean, it wasn't until the last year that we started to see titles like Saga and other non-DC or Marvel titles win mostly in part because a lot of people didn't read stuff from other publishers. That's in part why we will never have "best Image comic of the month" catagory or such. Not enough votes to support a regular catagory of that type even with the recent increase in people voting for those type of comics.

There are two major reasons why I changed the title to Best Indie is:

  1. I can't keep referring to that catagory as "Best Non-DC or Marvel". Too wordy and my hands get tired when referring to it and I like to talk to people about the catagories. If I said, "Best NDCM" would anyone know what I was talking about? indie is pretty easy to type.
  2. look it this way would you introduce the band The Grateful Dead as "Not The Beatles"? Not the most flattering of titles. and that's how I saw and see that catagory name.

So that's pretty much why I am keeping with the term "Indie Comics" (that and I asked the voters at the time and they said it was alright). This is actually the first time I have had a problem in regards to the title (generally people just vote for the non-DC or Marvel), but I will add a dissimilar to my templates as this subject has arisen.

@scouts1998: thanks for voting! that makes 10! Huzzah!

@the_poet: I notice in your previous best months threads, that DC comics do a lot better than Marvel. I mean I get Batman popularity , but I am still suprised about the rest. It could be down the fact that more DC fans vote instead of Marvel.

I think it's your voting thread, your in charge, I just found it strange with Indie comic categorie, but it's your call. If you make changes it's up to you.

First time voting and I missed another part out.

Here is the part I missed out.

Best Cover Artwork

  1. Uncanny X-Men 18

  2. X-Force 2

  3. X-Men 12

@scouts1998: yeah, figured that was what you were doing. I should say I don't compile until I know all the voters have commented (we're still waiting on one and whoever else posts in that time).

I was curious to see what you would say for Series that Should be on Everyone's Pull List. I admit the pick of Action comics was rather suprising to me...

Oh yes, this is sadly true. I'm one of the few voters who champions Marvel :) However, it's good to see we have someone who has a good mix of both! (Instead of just more Batman…)

Thanks. I always like Marvel more than DC and than mainly cause of the X-Men. X-Men are my favourite comics. I do read other comics from Top Cow, Image and Aspen Ltd. I even read some DC comics. It sill suprises me, about how popular Batman is, not just him, his family too. I'll never understand this fans attitude that Batman can beat everyone.

I still think if more fans took part, some from Marvel and other fans of other comic companies, Then DC wouldn't always win.

@time: Amem, sista, amen. I love Batman as a character personally, yet it baffles me on his popularity. And his diehard fandom! Also, it's fantastic to have another X-Men fan out there ^-^ They don't get too much love on CV as they used too.

Batman will always be a great character. Batman fans kind of remind me of Cyclops fans. They think Cyclops and Batman are the greatest ever.

X-Men are still love by comic vine users, just go onto there forum. It's ashamed Marvel don't love them any more. I guess selling rights of X-Men to 20 th century really change things. The X-Men are still the greatest in my opinion.

Yeah, I've been noticing that, too, which is partly why I decided to start voting. I'm glad that I'm helping with giving these threads more balance, and I'm hoping that others do the same.

You guys say there are a lot of DC but I have to say the poll has actually gotten much more variety than when it began back in 2011. It's much better than what it was like before. I mean, the poll started out as way for users to vote on the best Best new 52. My predecessor didn't ever say it outright but if you look at our first edition (Sept 2011) you don't see see a single marvel win a ranking at all.

Of course, that was the first month of the new 52 and the following month Uncanny X-force #16 won overall best issue so it has varied. So I would have to say this poll has provided much more variety (Batman hasn't had an overall best issue of the month winning streak in a long while).

I'd say the site ebbs and flows. DC was definitely popular in the poll for a while on up to this past year when it was more non-Marvel/DC winning in constant, but other hand if you look at my past community project lists (even in the poorly constructed ones of 2011) where popularity has leaned toward some characters over the others (storm for example). The subject of opinions has always fascinated me...

oh to let @v_scarlotte_rose and other potiental voters know:

I'm going to lock this on Saturday. I'll leave it open as long as I can (even after I compile the votes in my spreadsheet and prepare the results thread, but after that I'm locking it). Just a warning...

I supposed if It did start when the New 52 started , I 'm not suprised DC got more of votes. DC were releasing a lot of titles back then. I’m glad it’s got more balance overs the last couple of years.

I really hope that continues, I hope more fans of Marvel, Top cow, Image and Aspen take part, but not just them, other comic companies too. To give people a better picture of how well comics companies are doing. I do find it strange that Witchblade hardly get any votes, when it’s a great series with a strong female lead. The series has lasted 19 years. It’s even better than some of the Marvel and DC titles.

All we can wish for in the future, is that more people take part.

@time: I hope it could be more equal, but I think the current voting rates reflect the top selling comics (look at Top Selling Comics & Publisher Market Share: March 2014...I'd say their precentages are similar to the precentages we could get if we factored publisher rates.) and I don't know how much we better we can get but perhaps there will be suprieses.

I'm not very suprised Witchblade hardly get's votes. I know there are a number of well written or well illustrated books which don't get enough press. which is a shame really, but that's the trouble with popularity contests...
