Ladies and gentlemen WE ARE BACK! Prepare for excitement as the Comic Vine Community Star rips through your computer screen, grabs you by your head and electrocutes you with awesomeness! Every week, we put the spotlight on someone who has contributed some awesome work to this site and give them the hearty thanks that they deserve!
This week we give the award to another member of the CV staff, more specifically Sara "Babs" Lima! Technically, I was going to give her the award a few weeks ago, but because of the transition phase we were in, it wasn't possible to get the interview in, hence why I gave it to myself...
Longtime member of the website, Sara became an official staff member of the vine in 2009 and has been killing it ever since. She's the lady you see in the CV News every week! (Hooray! News is back!) She used to be known for her roleplaying skills in the forums, and now she's known for her news, reviews, and interviews.
Sara has done some work in the wiki section though. She has a total of 213 points on the Painkiller Jane page. She's done a bit of work on 189 pages, but her focus is more on getting content to the masses.
Sara still does do some fun blogs now and again. At a recent convention, she tried on a bunch of ridiculous wigs and made a little blog out of it. Sara also enjoys a humorous comic book panel here and there, check out this panel featuring Namor and Wolverine.
Now comes the moment you've all been waiting for: my hard hitting, in your face interview with Sara. Strap in because I'm about to give away all of her secrets you've been dying to read! Well, probably not, I'll probably just ask her about Demolition Man or Back to the Future again.
Hey Sara! How are you doing today?
- Hi Mat! I am doing swell, thanks!
You're welcome! What got you into reading comic books?
- Batman The Animated Series is what got me into reading comics. I used to watch it as well as the Adventures of Superman series back-to-back every Saturday morning. However, I didn't start reading comics (Detective Comics) until High School, and then I really got into comics when I was in college after my boyfriend dumped me. Is that too much information?
No, that's just enough information. I will find this man who broke your heart and I shall smite him. Do you remember the first comic book you ever read and what made you choose that book?
- I used to read Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen's DETECTIVE COMICS series because I loved Batman and I recognized Dini's name from his work on BTAS. I was also really drawn to Dustin's art. One of my very first (and favorite) graphic novels, however, was BATGIRL: YEAR ONE by Scott Beatty, Chuck Dixon and Marcos Martin. It's a fantastic book and it really made me fall in love with Barbara Gordon.
Who is your favorite comic book character and why?
- That's a tough question because there are so many characters I really love. I loved Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, I love Lady Shiva, I love Doctor Doom…but I think it all goes back to Batman. He's dark, brooding and mysterious and I think that of any character, Batman has been at the center of some of the most interesting stories.
Wait wait wait... I was really expecting Namor to be your answer. You've thrown me a complete curve-ball. What is your favorite series and story line?
- Geez that's tough. I think one of my favorite superhero story line is probably ALL-STAR SUPERMAN. There was nothing about that story that I didn't enjoy. From Quitely's stunning art and his ability to capture the essence and characteristics of Clark Kent, to Grant Morrison's absolutely beautiful plot. There was nothing about that book I didn't love.
I sense TPB sales increasing 10% thanks to that recommendation. How did you originally find out about Comic Vine?
- I was reading Morrison's BATMAN: R.I.P. There was a scene where Ra's Al Ghul died, but transferred his spirit/entity (?) into the body of his younger son. I didn't understand whether this was a power he had always had, or if it was something new so I went to google to find out. That's when I found Comic Vine.
Since you've started working at the vine, what is your favorite moment?
- My favorite moment was when I had the chance to interview Stan Lee. It was such a surreal feeling. Very, very cool.
A very awesome moment indeed. For those reading, check out the 2009 Long Beach Comic Con interview. Speaking of favorite moments, what's your favorite moment from the Back to the Future trilogy?
- "Doc, you don't just walk into a store and buy plutonium!"
I may have just laughed out loud. Aside from that trilogy, what's your favorite movie?
- My favorite movie….that's a hard question. My favorite movie is Roman Holiday, but I love Enter The Dragon, Star Wars (yes, I like all of them), Batman Begins…I really love movies so it's hard to pick just one. I recently saw Haywire and I really, really enjoyed that film. I would love to see more movies like that centered around a kick-ass chick. I know that after I submit this to you I'm going to kick myself for not picking another movie.
You missed Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon. SHO'NUFF! Who would win in a fight: Indiana Jones or Han Solo and why?
- That's tough. I think if it came down to it, (and it pains me to say this) Indiana Jones would win. Not because he's better than Han Solo, but I think he's definitely luckier. I mean, how many massive boulders has he dodged in his lifetime? I'm guessing a lot.
Plus, he punches Nazis which is something Han Solo never did because he was before Nazis' time. What do you like most, so far, about the new CV office?
- I like that there's a coffee machine! YUM! Oh, and I'm really happy I get to do the CV News video again. :)
I think everyone is very happy with not only the news coming back but also a lot of great video segments returning. Quick: You're on a plane and it's going down. You have 5 minutes left before it crashes. What do you do?
- Strap on my jet pack and jump out the emergency exit. There's a reason I always sit closest to the front of the airplane.
Any last words to the viners out there?
- "You have to have a dream so you can wake up in the morning." - Billy Wilder
I'd like to thank Sara "Babs" Lima for taking the time for the interview! Give her the congrats she deserves and we will "GASP" be back on Monday with the return of the Community Star voting thread! Bye!
