comic book superman in man of steel (spoilers)

So this has been the most debated part of man of steel is if superman should of killed GZ but I was thinking what would of comic book superman of done? Let's say pre flashpoint or pre52 superman was put in that exact same situation he had GZ in a chokehold and GZ was about to heat vision the people what would he have done?

@spidermanandsuperman: Obviously a comic writer would have written it, were he didn't kill Zod. I'm sure that part will play a big role in MoS 2

Superman has killed Zod in the comics....so.......he could do the same!
