Which sitcom do you consider the best out of these four?
*BBT is for Big Bang Theory.
The only sitcom I have ever enjoyed is That 70's Show
This and I used to watch Seinfield every morning. I'm actually going through That 70's show right now.
I watch BBT from time to time even though I don't think it's all that funny. Really just to see what they say about geeks, plus people are always watching it around here.
Of this list I'd say Cheers, I'm sorry but I hated Friends and Seinfeld is way over rated. And while I do find BBT funny sometimes its not what I'd call a great show, its not a bad show, just not a great one.
Seinfeld smashes.
The only other sitcoms to ever come close (for me) were Roseanne, and The Drew Carey Show. All 3 had extremely different sensibilities however.
FWIW, I also enjoyed Fraiser much more than Cheers. BBT is for lames.
Seinfeld easily, it literally changed what it meant to be a sitcom, it broke through the "family oriented" barrier, made their characters unlikable on purpose (which hadn't been done before), had unique plotlines, great supporting characters, great writing and relatable situations. Without it shows like It's always sunny in Philadelphia or How I met your Mother wouldn't exist. The only other sitcom I put on it's level in terms of sheer contribution to the genre is I love Lucy.
@the_stegman: What about M*A*S*H, having the most watched finale in the history of television has to count for something, right?
@juliedc: Y'know, I've never seen one episode of that show? It's odd now that I think about it.
@the_stegman: Friends is from early 90s and started the trend of young adults and their problems. It probably inspired How I met Your Mother, BBT and more.

Seinfeld has the whole "30 somethings living in the big city and dealing with their problems in wacky ways" too, only it started it in '89. Though, I admit, Friends is closer to HIMYM than Seinfeld and probably had a very large influence on it.
@the_stegman: It didn't help that I read the wikipedia entry wrong and thought it started in 1998... nonetheless I still think Friends is influential. I'm not really familiar with Seinfeld, might change that, would you recommend the show now?

Oh no, I agree, Friends is influential. And, I highly recommend Seinfeld, though, admittedly, it's not for everyone, and some of the jokes are dated. Another good show is Curb Your Enthusiasm, it's written by the creator of Seinfeld, Larry David, and is VERY similar to it, only more modern.

It's Always Sunny gets my vote. If I have to pick from the list, it's Seinfeld. TBBT shouldn't even be on there.
Seinfeld. Period.

@_gaff_: sunny is left out because it's the obvious choice, nothing can compete.
What other show has a character that huffs glue and eats cat food on a daily basis?
