Poll Captain America under the World Engine: Can he do it? (41 votes)

Yes. His shield is too strong. 12%
No. Steve gets crushed. 88%

This topic came up just now with my friend. If Captain America stood under the World Engine with his shield above his head or wherever he has to aim it, could he survive for 2 minutes?

Where are all these preposterous Cap threads coming from? The Thor one was the worst but this one is up there.

No, he'd get destroyed. Considering he was blown off a motorway by the impact of a grenade launcher, I think a world engine that was causing damage to a whole city would be enough to kill him.

@i_like_swords: Like I said. It was a topic. I thought it'd be fair due to his shield being a plot device. Cap was under his shield when Thor hit him. Cap wasn't crushed there.

@techn9ne: Thor isn't a world engine that was causing structural damage to all of Metropolis over the course of two minutes. Cap would become jelly under that type of force, with only his shield left.

After the first pulse, the Vibranium shield crushes whoever is under it.

@techn9ne: except thor's strike wasn't busting through an ocean floor, going through the core of earth and destroying a city on the other side of the planet with its pulse.

this kind of plot device is not comparable to what the world engine is.

Dude...each pulse was knocking down skyscrappers.

Cap went flying a hundred yards and was semi-KO'd by a 40mm grenade launcher with his shield up. (i wonder if that means Thor < Grenade Launcher TROLOLOLOLOL)

It's unlikely, partly because the World Engine isn't really making a beam-shaped hammer thats pounding the ground, it's manipulating gravity. So even if Steve has his shield up, the will still be torn into the ground as his body is suddenly in an area where even the air particles weighs hundreds of thousands of tons.

Secondly... well the World Engine itself landed over a spot where there was a considerable amounts of water... so Steve would probably drown.

Cap's shield is a great thing, but it cant protect him from stuff like this that affects more than it covers.

The shield might survive but the engine would just crush cap under the shield by pushing down on it

Clark was even having extreme difficulty standing on it.

If cap tries to get in the path of the beam his body will instantly turn into mush.
