i mean he is just as much Elder god as he is asgardian... its his species as well. why does he always say hes asgardian like he is a full blooded asgardian like balder?? just wondering..cauz since elder god is applicable to him..

I WOULD USE THAT TITLE MORE THAN ASGARDIAN AS ELDER GODS ARE VASTLY VASTLY MORE POWERFULL THAN ASGARDIANS LOL

He's to young.. Most elder gods are more powerful than he anyway.. So yeah.. Maybe he could spout the title.. But he won't have the age or power to back the claim.

Thor identifies with being Asgardian. As for being a god/elder god -- clearly he could claim being the latter but it's a matter of consequence and a complication of half this and half that and what have you. Distinctions like that don't matter outside of a story-line, rather than a defining feature of a character. (To me).

It isn't about age or presumed power level. The elder gods came into being from the primordial Darkness. Thor is the son of an elder goddess; as such, he is second generation and, therefor, not considered an elder god. The Asgardians were patrilineal, they followed family name and descent along the father's lineage; as Thor's father is Asgardian, Thor Odinson is Asgardian.

@sommyt: No, Elder god is not just a title they are gods who happen to be universal Elders as well and since there are gods who are much older than him that don't count as Elders he can't be one.

@sommyt: Dude if someone where born in america and are half American and Half Japanese but where raised in Japan you would call yourself Japanese. It's the same principle as that scenario but with viking gods.

@z3ro180: Well the difference is that regardless of his parentage Elder god is something you either are or you aren't. The Elder gods are the first Gods of the Marvel U and the only way one can be an actual Elder god is to be of that first generation.

Atum was born of Gaea and sired by the Demiurge, both elder gods; how else would one classify such an entity? He was not born in Asgard nor Olympus nor Earth and, although the character seems to be loosely derived from the Heliopolitan god of the same name, he does not seem to represent him. Thor is both the son and the direct descendant of Gaea on his father's side.

@dayvid3: Thor's true age is impossible to determine with historical accuracy. One of the historic complications is that the Germanic peoples (as well as the Celts) had no written language, so the first written account of the Viking mythos was from the ancient Romans. Even the Icelandic sagas were written by converted monks when they learned Latin. However, the Vikings are thought to be around 1300 yrs old, flourishing between the 8th and 11th centuries. But just because Thor may not have yet been worshiped by those people, or known by the name Thor, it does not mean that such a being was not yet extant. By some accounts, Odin helped create the world (by others, it was his father or grandfather). As point of reference, presumed genetic mutation which resulted in changes in the homo sapien brain that made language possible occurred approx. 50,000 yrs. ago, anatomical markers for humans appeared at least 200,000 yrs. ago, and proto-humans diverged from the chimpanzee branch of the evolutionary tree perhaps 5 million yrs. ago. Considering Thor and his race of Asgardian gods look and sound pretty human, and assuming the developed (evolved, were created, what have you) reasonably concurrently with the human race, we can presume Odin to be around 100,000 yrs. old (give or take and splitting the difference) and Thor to be no more than half Odin's age, would place him around 50,000 yrs. of age; right about the cusp of humans evolving to the point of developing language. At least, that's one theory. Somehow, though, Thor doesn't seem quite that mature. It may also depend on how many cycles of Ragnarok occurred through the ages by They Who Sit (sat) Above In Shadow.

lol wow that was very deeply engulfed in what seems to be historical fact and statistics. Nicely done. I thought they were asking about the comic version though
