Can Superman get Drunk?

I'm trying to write a fan-fic and Superman getting drunk is going to be a plot device. Can he get drunk?

All kidding aside, not he cant. He doesn't even need to eat, he just does that for appearances.

I don't want to write it and all the fanboys go into nerdrage: "ERMAGERD SUPERMAN CAN'T GET DRUNK, HE'S INVLUNERABLE TO EVERYTHING. DON'T YOU EVEN READ THE COMICS?!?!?!"

@saint_wildcard: Is that cannon? I remember him saying it in The New Adventures of Lois and Clark, but not in the comics, not recently anyway.

@gordyman: No one has ever written Superman to be drunk, but if you're referring to the eating comment, yes I'm sure. He also doesn't need to breath, all his nutrients come from the sun.

Pre-52 he didn't need to eat. New 52 has alluded to having the same ability, because in Superman and Supergirl don't need to breath or sleep.

IIRC, Superman bench pressed the earth for 5 days and only produced one drop of sweat. For them to make a big deal means he didnt shower or stop at all (which I think was said). Im almost positive this means he didnt eat either if he didnt stop or shower.

I doubt DC would advertise their flagship character being drunk

No he cannot, unless of course Kryptonite is in the beer, or he's under a red sun, or it's magical beer.

Super metabolism. It takes a human an hour to metabolize one beer/shot/wine glass/ounce of alcohol. His would probably be instant.

His cells are protected from most toxins and he can change the internal conditions of his body at will. So he can't, but it's truly the writers decision.

He is often rendered vulnerable to both magic and kryptonite, so just melt some kryptonite and make him a cocktail or have Zatanna enchant his bear. Personally would go with magic, since it is harder to detect.

If Hercules can, Superman can. :P
