I just want to put this out there for both sides, Marvel and DC for people who say that Marvel is beating DC in the movie category just look at it this way.

Man of Steel has outgrossed:

1) Iron Man

2) Iron Man 2

3) Thor)

4) Thor: The Dark World

5) Captain America

6) The Incredible Hulk

7) It also outsold Iron Man 3 in Blu-Ray

DC isn't that far behind, Marvel is making more collectively but if you look at it relatively DC is doing better, their one movie has outgrossed 6 of Marvel's "sacred" ones. The Avengers and Iron Man 3 are the only thing Marvel truly has over DC when you look at it this way. Batman vs Superman is coming up in 2016 and that is almost a shoe-in for over a billion if Man of Steel made $668 Million on it's own. Just putting that out there use this however you will.

I used boxofficemojo.com and worldwide numbers

@fan_not_fanboy: You forgot to add that both Batman films, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises both made a billion each and Superman Returns (also despite it shorting comings) made more domestically than the previous Marvel studios outputs. Don't know the actual numbers but were much bigger.

Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Incredible Hulk don't count against Man of Steel. They weren't in 3D. TDK and TDKR do beat those films though.

Man of Steel has only outgrossed Thor, Thor 2 and Cap. Don't try to make it sound bigger than it is :P

Oh and you saying that Iron Man 3 and Avengers are the only movies Marvel has over DC... TDK and TDKR are the only movies WB has over Marvel.

Win win mate.

I think Man of Steel and TDKR's numbers combined mean huge for Batman vs Superman, but... Avengers and Iron Man 3's numbers for Avengers 2? Marvel wins.

What is your 3rd point supposed to mean? Man of Steel 3D or not outgrossed all of those movies, and your second point I didn't make it sound bigger than it was, tell ALL the people who say Marvel is better b/c they make more that they can't use Avengers and IM3 because they are in 3D and TDK and TDKR weren't.

I don't even get what you're trying to say with most of your reply...

I think Man of Steel is better than all of the Marvel films except the Avengers, to me Marvel is just more popular but DC makes better movies (And also doesn't stab its fans in the back and make Mandarin terrible)

The numbers in the 2nd link are domestic only - not worldwide.

just use boxofficemojo as they tell you the numbers domestically, worldwide, and will tell you how to adjust for inflation.

Cool. Still like Marvel movies more though.

And shall we get into how much Green Lantern, Jonah Hex and Watchmen made? If we really wanted to get technical we could add the 90's Batman movies since were not adjusting for inflation.

@transformers1024: We could go really deep but I am mostly trying to prove that Man of Steel wasn't a failure at the box office, I'm not trying to discredit Marvel's movies.

If the dark Knight movies were in 3d they probably would've outgrossed ironman 3 at least. It would be interesting to see ticket sales. Because marvel has the avengers and iron man 3 over TDKR but TDKR wasn't 3d. And MOS wasn't a failure at all, it just wasn't the best in the box office. It did really well though.
