Best of the Month (Dec 2013)

Hope you all are having a good holiday! We are extending this edition by a week so that I will have time to calculate Comic Vine 2013 Comic Awards and Community Recognition (vote if you haven't already!) and so you can get your comics if you are like me and you are traveling!

As always, each vote ranking is worth different points (1st place = 3pts, 2nd place = 2pts, 3rd place = 1 pt) and the top 5 of each category will be declared The Best of The Month!

look forward to seeing your votes (especially what you would say for the wild card. That one is the one whose results I will find the most fasinating. Kind of similar to Best Ongoing from the Comic Awards poll, but I don't care too much :P

yeah, we got plenty of time for this. I'm still away on vacation, so I haven't picked up the last few comics from 2013.

What I didn't factor in when I posted the thread is that since next Wednesday is New years day most comic book stores will be releasing the 31st, so I suppose you right we will have one final week of comics...but my end date works either way so I'm happy (plus I won't want to deal with posting this when I start looking over the Awards next week...I might assemble both comics and community votes, but that depends on razz's internet and what I feel like doing...should be interesting)

@batkevin74: ok first off I want to say thanks for voting

second off I need to draw attention to the format I added to your post. This is what I need (otherwise I go insane because your format requires that I input each vote manually when you have 3 (where as now I can copy and past all three in at the same time). It was alright to vote that way in the Awards because we don't want to be specific on which issue/series Joker was the best villain in this year (because he was in so many in 2013), but I like to be more specific since this is the best of the month so we honor the creators and the series they write. And characters some times appear in more than one issue (Lex for example apears in numberious series a month because he's a popular charcter). Plus, I don't like researching (takes more time) and don't read marvel as much (just got into Amazing X-men and I will shortly be reading trades for hawkeye and might get a few other series), so I don't know for example where punisher appeared this month.

oh, you know what? You know what I just realized when you got me thinking about "keeping it up"? Once I calculate this edition, I will hosted the Best of the Month poll for 2 years. Well, technically I took the reigns January 2012 and then went back and compiled Dec 2011, but either way...intersting. Credit of course goes to @cosmo111687 who started this Sept 2011 and went until they posted the voting thread for Dec 2011. 2 years. that's cool. There was a little period where I was away from comicvine for a few months so it's not technically 2 years worth of results, but I'm being nitpicky...

THIRDED! I wont be able to get the title as single issues, but I`ll be waiting for the trades.

I recall my idea for 'most anticipated new title.' K4tz4n just posted this exact same thing on the main page :/

And make a motion we use "most anticipated [old or new] title."

@lifeboy: @kfhrfdu_89_76k: @manneffest: would you guys rather do (since as lifeboy said K4 is doing that at least for Marvel) like a semi-reverse of what we did this month like "Series You are Most Exciting about reading in 2014"

or a prediction-based wild card could be interesting. like "Series we think will be most successful in 2014" or something like that.

or since the new year is all about resolutions, we could do "Series we resolve to read" or something. Honestly, I'm just throwing out ideas.

Series we are most excited about reading.

People can say for example, "Iron Fist #1" or "RHatO's #29".

Just throwing it out there. I don't know how must sense it makes or if others will think its fun.

@lifeboy: the only reason I am hesitant is that we don't have a good track record for future or past issues (other than what we read this month). Like in the Comic Awards we have Best Issue of the year and the problem that some people have is they don't know issues or won't research those issues (most people are lazy).

Personally as a voter, I think I could get my three and I would be fascinated by the results, but as host I am hesitant because I don't know how many of our voters will vote in this category. They will more likely know a series than an actual number. That being said, I am not saying no so if the people want it I will have it as next month's wild card (just wanted to voice my concern).

btw, you didn't read a series you were thankful for reading last year?

@the_poet: I'm not totally sure how to answer that question.

@v_scarlotte_rose: well, really titles you enjoyed reading last year. To paraphrase the staff copy of this: what was at the top of your pile every month? That is assuming you read the good stuff first. I personally like to savor my comics so I reverse that concept, so after I read the not as good stuff I can wash that taste out of my mouth with some good entertaining series.

I don't allow you guys to vote directly for Best Issue of the Month (it's based on a compilation of all the comic based catagory votes), but if you could decide what series won most months last year...what series would you pick? You can consider the titles you vote for best writing, art, etc. this month and other times.

@the_poet: I also read the good stuff last most of the time, though sometimes it'll alter depending on certain storylines.

I tried to decide on what to vote for, but it seemed kind of difficult for me to compare a whole years worth. I would probably have voted for Batwoman, even though it may have gone wrong in the last 2 issues, but I couldn't quite choose a second and third option. I'll maybe have another think about it and put a vote in if the deadline is still open.
