Best Comic Covers of the Week: 10/05/12

This week we have quite a variety of different comic covers, and each of them really beautiful in their own way.

BEFORE WATCHMEN: RORSCHACH #2

First up is the stunning Lee Bermejo cover for BEFORE WATCHMEN: RORSCHACH #2. I love the angle of the image and the way it appears as though we are viewing Kovacs' face from below. I think it's actually a great reflection of what's happening in the series; this realization that Kovacs is becoming Rorschach and is marked by (is it blood or ketchup) on the reflection of his face on the table. It's just a great example of an artist being creative with perspective and delivering a truly stunning cover as a result.

HACK/SLASH #18

The "B" cover to HACK/SLASH #18 this week is pretty adorable. Normally we don't see clean covers to HACK/SLASH titles, but this one is a pretty wholesome homage to Scoobie Doo. It's a really simple image which presents the HACK/SLASH characters as Scoobie and his gang. It's nice to see artist Matt Merhoff give his own spin on an iconic theme.

HARVEST #3

Speaking of perspective, artist Colin Lorimer proves with the cover to HARVEST #3 that he knows just how to use different angles to his advantage. I think it's interesting to have the focal point of the cover be the heart in the hands of a surgeon. It's an incredibly detailed and well drawn picture. What I like the most about it is the way that it guides you into the story.

THE LONE RANGER #10

I don't think we can go one week without mentioning a cover drawn by artist Francesco Francavilla, can we? The man is a master of illustrating a sweeping, emotional scene. Here, on the cover to THE LONE RANGER #10 he captures a poignant and sad moment in the issue, and makes it the focal point of this month's cover. It's brilliantly done; from the use of shadows as well as the red hues. It's a brilliantly illustrated cover.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #695

Last, but definitely not least, is the beautiful cover to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #695. When I first looked at this cover, we had no idea it had been illustrated by artist Steve McNiven -- we definitely did a double take. There's so much great about this image. First, Peter is front and centered, and behind him he is surrounded by many of his biggest adversaries including the Hobgoblin and the Kingpin. The result is just a really neat, very well structured superhero cover.

Loved that ASM cover.

Freaking love the Hobgoblin. About time he got some love instead of always Norman Osbourne.

I like BWR the best on here.

Wish I could of gotten that Hack Slash B Cover, loving the Scooby theme.

ASM cover FTW I say.

i hate rorschach's cover. what are those sausages?? they look like turds. little turds and omelette.

It's important to point out that if you put all the covers for Harvest together, they form one picture.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the rorschach Cover and the book.

The Rorschach Before Watchmen cover...very impressive. May be getting "played out" using the Rorschach inkblot design but I like the effect here.

My favorite cover of the week by far was Road to Oz #2. Simple image, but it's done beautifully and it really stood out from all the other comics this week. Heck, even the free comic offer badge is colored differently to fit. I haven't been reading the Oz minis, but that cover alone makes me really want to check them out.

All great covers!! I was so happy to get the 'Scooby Doo'-themed Hack/Slash cover. I have been waiting for that one since I saw the solicitation months ago!

I really thought the Dial H cover would make the (top of the) list this week...
