There's been a lot of posts the past week or so about "name your top 5 current on goings" or "favorite arcs" and such. But I'm curious to know what are some of the best titles you have ever read since you've started reading comics?

Here's a bit of a challenge for the people that are up for it: Try not to say any Marvel or DC comics (although I will accept Vertigo)

I'll start:

- Saga

- The Walking Dead

- The Sandman

- Watchmen

- X-O Manowar

- Bloodshot

- Green Arrow (New 52, Lemire)

- Red Hood and the Outlaws

- Ultimate Spiderman (Vol. 1)

- Fantastic Four (Marvel NOW!, Matt Fraction)

er, none, as I only read DC and Marvel, unless you include the Beano, Eagle and Look-in from when I was a kid!

@jayc1324: I worded it wrong in the OP'. You can name off Marvel and DC titles too. But I know a lot of people exclusively stick to the big two, so I'm trying to have some users that are up to the challenge to express their love for some indie titles.

Without marvel and dc,

Conan from dark horse and GI joe from IDW come to mind

Heavy metal is awesome too even though its entirely different from any other comics here...

also Sandman from vertigo and Witchblade from Image

De Indianen Reeks series by Hans Kresse (Don`t know the English title - I read them in neither English nor Dutch)

Blueberry by Charlier/Giraud

Footrot Flats by Murray Ball

Course I grew up with Hergès Tintin and Morris/Goscinnys Lucky Luke and still read from time to time

Punisher by Garth Ennis. Not all of them but when they`re good they are good.

I'm not sure if there'd be that much Marvel or DC on my list anyway to be honest.

  • Nikolai Dante: The Courtship of Jena Makorov
  • Nikolai Dante: The Romanov Dynasty
  • Watchmen
  • Judge Dredd: Tour of Duty
  • Judge Dredd: Mandroid
  • Judge Dredd: America
  • Marshal Law: Fear and Loathing
  • ABC Warriors: The Volgan War
  • The Ballad of Halo Jones
  • Strontium Dog: The Moses Incident
  • Strontium Dog: Bitch
  • Miracleman: Olympus

I really need to read some more Image thouge, what I've seen so far shows a lot of promise.

I've read a lot of Dark Horse but am not that enamored with their stuff overall, outside of Sin City maybe, but I haven't read that in like 10 years so I'm not sure how I'd feel about it now.

Never liked D.C. Thomson.

Never read Valiant, will check them out eventually.

1 Chew (my absolute fav right now)

2 Walking Dead (not lately though)

3 Saga (so interesting)

4 Preacher

5 Injustice (I really dig it)

Okay, I will stop right there for now. I might have to re-visit this or maybe revise the ordering some... I am hearing that I need to jump on Hawkeye from Marvel so... I'll check back.

1. Runaways -This is what got me into comics

2. iZombie - All the feels ever! <3

3. Earth X - If I didn't have sentimental attachment to the other two I would say that this is the best comic I ever read.

This is in no particular order:

Chuck Dixon's run on Robin, Nightwing, and Detective Comics (I still enjoyed Robin and Nightwing post-Dixon but his work was the best)

Paul Dini and Scott Snyder's runs on Detective Comics

Mark Waid's (and later Geoff Johns') run on The Flash

Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern

Jeph Loeb's run on Superman\Batman

Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America

I don't want to make too long of a list, so I'll just name a few things.

Batman: R.I.P.

The Long Halloween

The Killing Joke

Green Arrow: Year One

Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters

Watchmen

Superman: Earth One
