Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 12/19/14

It's the end of the week, so it's time to see what covers rocked our world. Each week, the staff of Comic Vine picks out their favorite covers and presents them in a nice little package for you. We also ask our followers on Twitter what they loved as well. Let's get right down to business.

BATMAN #37 by Greg Capullo, Danny Miki, & FCO Plascencia

First up is BATMAN #37 by Greg Capullo, Danny Miki, & FCO Plascencia. Welcome to creepytown. Population: Joker and his old face. Everything from the look on his face to the color of his teeth makes this one eye-catching cover, in the most horrifying way possible.

MANIFEST DESTINY #12 by Matthew Roberts & Owen Gieni

Next is MANIFEST DESTINY #12 by Matthew Roberts & Owen Gieni. These guys are some fantastic artists. There's a ton of detail and craftsmanship within this piece. Gieni's color work here is exceptionally good.

THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE #4 by Dave McKean

Here is THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE #4 by Dave McKean. Both covers for this issue were exceptional, but McKean's stuck out a bit more because of the real emotion within the piece. The set-up and execution here are great and it captures the essence of the character well.

ELEKTRA #9 by Michael Del Mundo

Finally, here's ELEKTRA #9 by Michael Del Mundo. He always puts out some great looking covers and the amount of work that went into this piece, with all the members of the Hand and the swords had to have been a lot. It reads just as great up close as it does far away.

Twitter Pick: THE MULTIVERSITY: THUNDERWORLD #1 by Cameron Stewart

You folks picked THE MULTIVERSITY: THUNDERWORLD #1 by Cameron Stewart. There were a TON of votes this week and THUNDERWORLD got one more vote than STORM #6. THUNDERWORLD's cover just puts a smile on your face with a style reminiscent of the golden age version character. It has a great feeling of nostalgia.

The Sandman will always have some of my favorite covers.

All brilliant covers. Although one of the guys on Manifest Destiny looks as though he has a deformed pectoral muscle.

I love that multiversity cover and that endgame cover isnt that great imo.

That Sandman cover is fantastically beautiful. Sandman will always have great covers. Also glad Thunderworld got on here, that cover is just such old-school cool, the Captain Marvel I know & love, brings a nostalgic smile to my face.

I just bought the Darwyn Cooke DC variants. And they are fantastic.

Ugh, a Batman cover finally makes the list when I happen to get one of the variant covers. Oh wait, its f*cking Darwyn Cooke! Zero complaints here!

@donfelipe: ya it is surprisingly expensive at a dollar more then all other Devil's Due comics.

Unless I'm missing something, when I check the #CVCovers hashtag, I see 5 for Storm 6 and only 2 for Thunderworld.

The covers are by staff, not fan votes. Realistically speaking, some characters could have a dot or a stick figure and some fans would vote for it. These are what staff liked.

The twitter vote was left open after the article came out, hence the Thunderbolt winning as the other cover had a "rally".

This one, for me, is the best cover this week.

Black Widow's was awesome this week

I've checked the date and time those Storm #6 tweets were posted as well as the date and time this article was posted and the tweets came first. How did I know? Because it was on that very day that I was able to check the information.
