Best birthday ever!? Help!

My boyfriend is a Huge comic book fan and I need help! I don't know what to do for his birthday! Im fine on presents I have plenty ideas on what to get him I just don't know what to do for him. The past 2 years I have arranged for him to meet 2 of his favorite, more indi, bands. This year I want to do a special comic book birthday but it needs to be just as good. Here are the details we live in Louisiana and his birthday is in August. I thought about comic con in San diego but that's very much at of our budget at this point since we just moved to a new house. Is there any thing in my area around that time that I could take him to? How do I find out about more local comic book conventions. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks!
