I was in a rush. Here we go:

  • I consider the upper limit of street level to be roughly around Spider-Man's physicals. This isn't a term carved in stone, but it's what I use to qualify it. Captain America is well under those levels. Iron Man is well above them. As of right now, T'Challa has done nothing to prove he's near Spider-Man's physicals yet, either.
  • Iron Man can fly at absurd speeds, is durable enough to withstand, and has the strength to slug it out with Hulk. He's not street level at all.
  • Despite this, could it be an interesting match? Absolutely. Iron Man isn't a bloodlusted fellow so he won't obliterate Wayne, but it's a massssssssssssive uphill struggle for Stark, not to mention Tony is immune to EMP. Wayne would need prep. My segment doesn't include prep.
  • Simply put, my two rules are they must be street level and they cannot be DC. Iron Man doesn't fall under that category, nor do I consider myself a qualified expert on the character, so I don't believe I'd so him justice. There are so many more matches I want to do and I'm sorry to inform you Iron Man isn't one of them.
  • See my latest reply in Batman vs Black Panther for what I roughly consider to be Batman's standard gear.
  • I clearly meant unpopulated as in all forms of life when I used it there. They're the only living creatures in the city. Also, Batman has used it (IIRC) only once, and it was to elude authorities (Year One). I see no logical reason how using it in a one vs one would be justified here.

Thankyou for your reply, and clarifications.

When I mentioned unpopulated, I wasn't being snarky, I honestly thought you meant unpopulated by people.

I found your last reply where you mention what you consider his standard equipment, and you said:

As for "standard," it varies, but I'd say batarangs, grappling line, small explosives, magnet, sonics, gas, smoke, electric/taser, incendiary and cryo covers the basics.

But then if I recall correctly, you said the magnet wasn't standard when you wrote the post with Wolverine, because you only saw him use it once. I'm just asking that you define what equipment he has, and that he has it every time, other wise it doesn't seem fair.

As for summoning bats, I thought it was a standard part of his costume, although I can't remember him using it outside of Year One...although I'm sure he has. Assuming it was a standard part of his costume, it would make sense if he was getting overwhelmed, as a way for him to regain ground/go into hiding, would it not?

@MuyJingo: You're welcome.  I don't recall ever saying a magnet (the one used in Snyder's run) isn't part of his standard gear. It's the size of a coin, so surely he could always have one on him.  I certainly imply he has it in the feature -- and that feature is based on him having "standard" gear.

When it's clear blunt force isn't working against his opponent (and that'll likely be a relatively quick realization against Wolverine), he has an abundant amount of equipment to deploy, including but not limited to sonics (used against Killer Croc  in 'Hush '), magnets (used in Scott Snyder's  BATMAN ), explosives ('Under the Red Hood '), electricity (vs Bane  in THE DARK KNIGHT ) and much, much more. Once it's transparent his feet and fists won't do much against Wolverine, he'll begin to test these other options. It's unlikely any would defeat Logan right away, but many have the potential to faze him at the very least. The sooner Batman realizes he needs to use a magnet, the better. Seeing as he's a gifted detective and his cowl has different vision modes, it's certainly not a far-fetched possibility.

@MuyJingo: While I'm not a huge fan of the Black Panther, I think he's as close to a match for Batman as you will find in the Marvel Universe.

1: Physically his strength, speed, senses are pushed up 'NEAR' super-human.

2: He's a master of several forms of Martial Arts.

3: Intelligence - He's one of the ten smartest men on earth in the Marvel universe.

4: He's a brilliant military strategist.

5: He's a brilliant engineer, scientist, and inventor....

Now, seriously.... If you look at that list, doesn't that sounds A LOT like Batman?

I think it'd be just about the perfect match up... Except for the fan base. There aren't many Black Panther fanboys out there... Also, "Black" Panther is a stupid hero name... Because, by definition, all Panther's are black... A panther is a "black" jaguar.

Overcoming the tragedy of losing his parents, Bruce Wayne dedicated his life to fighting crime. Despite his sanity, he's one of the finest human beings ever and one of the World's Greatest Superheroes.

  • He mastered degrees and 127 Martial Arts
  • He perfected escape artistry.
  • He has pushed the limits of the human body
  • Created badass armor, a belt with the best toys ever, an epic car that can respond to his voice
  • Skillful detective skills and military tactics
  • Though a mere mortal, the feats of the Dark Knight has stand among gods.
  • He's endured being broken in half, fought Supermen, survived complete disintegration, fought from superhero/supervillain teams and gods.
  • Heck, he's endured a time-travel as a living time bomb of galactic destruction!
  • Evil has no hiding place because the Dark Knight is a badass, making people terrified at just his shadow.

The is Vengence. He is the KNIGHT. HE IS THE GODDAMN BATMAN!!!

Would you class Spawn as street level? depending on how much power he has used/accumulated. I think this would be good fight. A classic for him to take on: American Flagg. And for a true battle in the dark: Eric Draven.

I thought the fight was well thought out and reasoned for BP and Batman.

If you're looking to go outside the Marvel Universe for match-ups, why not Zealot from WildC.A.T.S?

How about Batman vs Galactus in a random encounter, it's about as fair and impartial as the last few.

@serpent222 Been done in battle forums. Iron Man vs Bats with InsiderSuit abd he still lost.

How about Batman vs. Peter cannon Thunderbolt or the shadow

#70 Posted by Dark Chord (9 posts) - - Show Bio

I really have enjoyed these past articles, and the current one is no different. I feel your reasoning is sound, and it fits well into the topic. There are plenty of matchups I would be interested in: Falcon and Bullseye from Marvel, Cyblade and Witchblade from Top Cow.

That being said, I would also love to see a Marvel version of this. Captain America has proven to be a genius-level tactician in the past. Even in situations that were unwinnable, (I am thinking of the Onslaught battle where he and a handful of other Avengers were outmatched by Post and Holocaust) he managed to find a way to win. Admittedly, as a soldier, I may be a bit biased, but I would love to see how he fares against Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger, Richard Dragon, or Cassandra Cain. Or even Ted Kord or Connor Hawke. Just a thought, what say you?

Elektra would be a great opponent for Batman especially due to her training, her mental abilities, and her skills with with weaponry.

To be honest Batman outclasses her in every aspect. He has far greater intellect and strategic thinking, fighting skills, equipment, and armor/apparel.

She'd put up a fight, but it wouldn't be a real debate if everyone knows she'd lose.

@k4tzm4n: What do you think of my suggestions?

Luke Cage, Iron-fist, Nightcrawler, Billy Butcher (the Boys), Blade, Grim Reaper

Batman/ Turok? Hard to find a battleground for that one that is not advantageous to one.... guess they'd have to fight in the 'burbs.

QUESTION: Which format do you guys prefer?

  • 3 key parts: Batman's advantages, other character's advantages, verdict .
  • Broken up into various categories: intelligence, fighting skill, powers, physicals, etc.

@k4tzm4n: I would like various categories because they are generally more in-depth and explore other factors, not just advantages.

Bat-fans are stupid, he's a Daredevil-level character. He's just a human, nothing more than that. And to think he can pull off superhuman feats makes you delusional, it's almost making me hate Batman because of how dumb you all are...go read a comic or two you idiots...

@Decoy Elite: Surprisingly here Batman has more haters than Superman. I mean Batman didn't get a why do so many people pick on him thread.

#94 Posted by Decoy Elite (30041 posts) - - Show Bio

@DarkKnightDetective: Eh, most people say Superman is boring because he's powerful, the Bat haters more of just say he's overrated.

#95 Posted by Dark_Vengeance_ (14594 posts) - - Show Bio

@Decoy Elite: True, true.

#96 Posted by YourNeighborhoodComicGeek (20116 posts) - - Show Bio

@Decoy Elite: Ugh...I hate people who say that Superman is uninteresting because he has too many powers. If most people actually read the comics they would know that's kind of the purpose of his character. Look at All-Star Superman and the vast power he had there, and the story was still brilliantly told.

Infinity Gauntlet is also an enjoyable read, and look how easily Thanos defeated The Avengers, X-Men, Silver Surfer, etc. etc.

To be honest most people that use that excuse are non-comic book readers or comic book readers with very little knowledge on Clark Kent.

#97 Posted by Decoy Elite (30041 posts) - - Show Bio

@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: It's not that they aren't comic readers, it's that they don't read Superman or they read something sub-par with Superman.

#98 Posted by YourNeighborhoodComicGeek (20116 posts) - - Show Bio

@Decoy Elite:

Yeah that is true, but I know a lot of people at my school who don't really read comic books and just say "Superman sucks because he's cheap and has way too many powers."

It gets annoying after the 18147101919571957th time.
