From a realistic point of view, i've always wondered why most superheroes don't wear bull proof vests, just in case.
Armored Superheroes During the 90s
" @xerox-kitty said:" That's what's lacking in today's comics... we need MORE armour and MORE pouches! Especialy the tiny garter leg pouches! ;) "Everyone be cool, xerox-kitty has been brainwashed by Rob Liefeld. We must tread gently. =P "
Yes, very, very gently. lol
What about some armored characters from other companies? Like Malibu's Prototype, or Spartan and Warblade from Wild CATs?
superman had armour... Thor had amour even Batman well his replacemnt had armour seems armour was the new black in the 90s....
I like that show too, but I agree that it could have used a TON of work--especially that proposed 2nd season featuring Thor and Loki, and the X-Men!
In my fanfic in the works, I am retconning a few things about that show so it fits nicely into the MAU and not loosely.
It was a era of lack of ideas and lack of creativity, especially for the two big ones - no wonder the 90s had seen the foundation of new labels and publishers (Image, Darkhorse, Wildstorm, ...) and amazing new heroes like WildC.A.T.s, Spawn, The Authority, Stormwatch ...
Of course there are exception, DC hat a good run with JLA in the 90s (1997) - like the launch of the Ultimate universe in 2000 (with Ult. Spider-Man) it introduced the creative revival of both the DCU and the Marvel universe.
Before the 90s has been a dark age for the major comic publishers.
It's an idea they got from the Marvel Transformers series." We all know the reason.... http://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys"
"Rather than simply showing up in the background, new toy/characters* often overtly introduce themselves, often with a ridiculous description of their special abilities. The Marvel comic is rife with examples, but it shows up across numerous fictions."
*In this case armors
Oh, yeah, the armored Spider-Man. Or as I liked to call him, "Waffle-iron Spidey". Ugh. Regarding Daredevil I thought the concept of Daredevil with armor wasn't too bad but the design never set well with me. If the design had been better I guess I could have accepted it but after all, though, being Daredevil the "Man Without Fear" would be detracting if he wore armor, wouldn't he?
Cap has a chainmail based costume, or at least he used to last I knew but it is thin enough you usually don't know it. Any other armor should be left to Iron Man and War Machine, and Steel. There are other characters but putting armor on the characters who don't usually use it just falls flat. Just a gimmick at the end of the day, really.
Ok, I can't let this go unsaid. Alex Ross's Justice armors look like crap! Aside from the Batman one which is only really cool because he based it off of Adam West's Batmobile, they are bad. I'm assuming that is Superman, not Steel... he doesn't look like Suprman at all, aside from the S. The majority of them aren't instantly recognizable; they don't use the color schemes or overall look of the characters, and come off as just lazy. I think that is Spectre (2nd from the right top row on the first pic, top left on the bottom)… he literally drew it in grayscale and inverted it. That's the kinda crap kids do on their deviant art pages to look "dark". Yes the quality of the work is good, but the design is abhorrent." @TheMinister707 said:

As for the caption in the article that Vision looks foolish, he's a robot, he's the only one that has an excuse to look like that. I think what it boils down to is that armor is a very GOOD idea; unless your character is invulnerable or can can avoid getting shot in the chest, spandex won't protect you for sh*t. Were the designs bad? oh, almost without exception (I like DD's armor costume more than his yellow one, or his all red get up), but as a concept I'd believe Christian Bale's batsuit(s) are better for fighting crime than Adam West's.
Thor wore Asgardian armor with a mobile cast made by Iron Man during Walt Simonson's run, and that was back in the 80s.
Dude, read the series before you bash the designs. The armors they use are designed from a combination of classic JLA costumes and are actually modified versions of the Metal Men made to resist the Legion of Doom's advanced technology. That's why the color schemes don't match up with some of the characters, because they only had Iron, Lead, Tin, Mercury, Platinum and Gold to work with." @Metatron_Da_Don said:

Plus, that's Zatanna not Spectre. Last time I checked, Spectre didn't have cleavage or fishnets.
I think there's nothing more unrealistic than spandex tights in any kind of fight. It's no accident that in the superhero movies Hollywood has produced Daredevil and the X-Men switched to leather and Batman went with form-fitted armor. From the pictures of Captain America, it looks like they're giving him a bit of armor for the movie, too. Only Superman (on whom armor is as useful as shoes on a snake) and Spiderman (who depends on his Spider Senses and quickness) stayed with spandex.
" Batman donned Armor in the 80's first. When the Dark Knight returned. Lest we forget. Armor, is cool. So say we all!!! "So say we all!!

" Cap and Spidey really looked ridiculous but Daredevil looked amazing. "When I first started collecting DD as a little kid with stories like Tree of Knowledge, that was how he looked. So I've got a soft spot for the armour, and I agree with you. It was awesome. :]
