When Bruce Hulks out, is he still Bruce? Does it depend on how mad he is?
Are Hulk and Bruce Banner the same person?
@racob7: Depends on the incarnation. Could he savage, could be rational.
@racob7: Such an interesting question, 1st in comic book terms, in She Hulk #19 Ms Book successfully defended the Leader proving those effected by gamma rays are not themselves, so comically legally Bruce is not the Hulk.
But personally they are the same person, I am a physicist with anxiety and emotional arousal issues and for me the hulk is just a super powered version of those issues. when I am having an anxiety attack I am not myself, my emotions take over, but technically I am still me, I just have a spiral of regret to fuel future attacks. For me the Hulks forms are varies states of emotional arousal, Bruce Banner is the opposite of a psychopath, he acts purely on emotional reaction with no premeditation or cognitive function. This is not always the case, but It makes the hulk the character I relate to best.
So maybe it depends both on the author and the reader, I have two conflicting views and maybe that's the mystery, not just for the hulk, but for all gamma powered heros and villains...
I always looked at it as the Hulk just being another personality from Bruce Banner's broken psyche. This explains the differently characterized Hulks we see, as well as weird versions of Banner like the Jason Aaron one. Basically it's just like Madrox's dupes in my eyes.
Hulk is a manifestation of Bruce's anger. They are absolutely the same.
this.
Yes they are the same person.
