To me yes. These 2 are what started the genre and have always been relevant no matter what . Superman stared the whole comic boom, and batman changed the game with his dark, vigilante persona. Soon after u got guys like spider man, captain America, wolverine, etc. But if there was a mount rushemore of superheros, it will only be those 2. What do u guys think?
Are Batman And Superman the only icons in comics
Not true.
@mrtummytumms: u think there's more?
@darryl: no
Right now the five most popular superheroes are.
Batman
Spider man
Iron man
Wolverine
Hulk from a poll
No. They are the biggest, but Spider-Man has always been right there with them, and now with the movies, Iron Man is right up there. Hulk, Wonder Woman and Wolverine are all in too.
If I had to make a list:
1) Batman
2) Spider-Man
3) Superman
4) Iron Man
5) Wonder Woman
6) Wolverine
7) Hulk
@rd189: Wonder Woman IS NOT a head of Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, or Cap. When she carries a film on her own, then come talk to me. Until then she IS a B lister. She is a well known B lister yes, but a B lister none the less. Hell I'd put Catwoman a head of WW. I'd also say Black Widow is just as popular or even more popular than WW in 2014.
@darryl: You yourself mentioned the "Mount Rushmore of superheros". Well yes Batman and Superman should be there, but who else? Two more spots remain and clearly Spidey gets one spot. The final spot is either Hulk or Wolverine. So to answer your question, yes there are more than just those two in the "Iconic" catagory. Besides WTF does iconic even mean? They are all very popular characters, this seems like a loaded PRO DC thread. Because they feel their characters are "Iconic" while Marvel is just that silly little company that doesn't have Superman.
@mikeyj122: iconic means legendary status. Worldwide renown. What was spiderman doing before the movies? These 2 had thier own shows and was popular before the movies. Spiderman wasn't. And even if he was he wasn't as big as these 2
@darryl: Who decides these things? I don't dispute Batman or Superman's place, but you seem to think they are in an exclusive club all their own. Which I do not agree with. Captain America has been around for just as long as Bats and Supes, he doesn't count? Spider~Man is just as "Iconic" as Batman or Superman, and he has been more popular than Superman since 1995, maybe even earlier.

That's nice. These characters aren't bigger icons than WW, and if they are, it's not such a stomp that you should be ignoring her. She's not exactly some unknown character. She's one of the Trinity, the big 3 of DC.
@sophisticated_ignorance: Personal insults are against the rules, even if you add "no offense" and "lol".
Batman and Superman are like the grandfathers in all comics and Wonder woman is up there being in the top 3 of DC. when it comes to popularity and comic success Spider man is in the top list for sure and as of right now he is more popular than wonder woman

how about multiple television shows including live action shows and animated series?
No Spider-Man is just as iconic as them, not to mention Spidey is the one who popularized relatable characters. Also Batman isn't the second superhero, Namor is.

Thats a shame lol.
Don't care what anyone says. The 4 most Iconic goes the following.
Superman
Batman
Spider-Man
Wonder Woman
Wolverine
Hulk
Even with the movies I'd still say the Character of Robin is still more well known then most of the others mentioned. Ironman has defiantly got a boost in popularity but these other characters are just more iconic. Also just more popular.
@sophisticated_ignorance: who are u talking to?
@ironknight1: @sophisticated_ignorance: @eyedcyou: Are the only people in this thread that aren't acting like idiots. I was gone for a few months and this really gives a bad taste in my mouth.

what is it exactly that gives you a bad taste ?

You're kidding right? Spider-man has been popular since he was created. He's had multiple shows (one live action) and games.
At the end of the day there is only one superhero we can completely relate with & that is Spider-man. So he is an icon. We can also count The Flash as it was his series that jumpstarted the silver age & made the comics modern, when all comics were closing shops & Batman was fighting unicorns.

Character who stars in a $700 M grossing solo film > Character who starred in a hit tv show 40 years ago.
@stormshadow_x: u are so right about robin
The most iconic superheroes are and probably will always be Superman, Batman, and Spiderman.
Some of you guys need to look up the definition of an icon. Saying WW isn't iconic and putting her below Black Widow just because she hasn't been in a movie yet is plain disrespectful. Many icons for different times. Superman was an icon of the generation he came from an a while longer after that. WW was an icon for many women when she came out. Captain America was an icon mostly for the time period that he came from. Batman is an icon. He went through SO many changes to the point where there is a Batman for everybody. My parents love the Adam West show, my cousins and I love the BTAS, my sister loves the Brave and the Bold. I'm sure there are many other characters out there that could be considered icons. Just because you were in a movie that made a lot of money, doesn't make you an icon. Black Widow, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man are not on an iconic status yet. They may be popular but they haven't done anything to earn the title of an icon.
Everyone is forgetting Captain America. He is known as much as the others here. Also my list consisting of my view of the modern world My list would be
1-Batman
2-Spider-Man
3-Superman
4-Captain America
5-Catwoman/Hulk/Iron Man/Wonder Woman

What about my post made you think i was acting like an idiot?
Bats/supes did not start it all. it was the original Captain Marvel who pionered everything about modern comics.
@comicdude360: he didn't say most popular.
@mikeyj122: are you drunk? You must be one of those that have gotten to be known with the heroes through movies which is really sad. Wonder woman is an A-lister and has always been. She is waaaaaaayyy ahead of thor, cap and hulk comic book wise, wolverine is probably more liked, but you must be drunk. Lol
