"Apocalypse" Will Be Jennifer Lawrence's Last X-Men Film

There's still quite a bit of secrecy surrounding the third part of the second X-Men trilogy, which is titled "Apocalypse." There are numerous rumors of who will and won't be returning to this final films, but one this is for sure. This will be Jennifer Lawrence's final film.

Jennifer Lawrence played Mystique in both X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. During an interview with MTV (around the 3:25 mark), Lawrence dropped the bomb that this is the last one for her.

Supposedly, Mystique will play a larger role in this film, even though she had a pretty significant role in Days of Future Past.

Currently, Bryan Singer is on board to direct and the film is expected to his theaters on May 27,2016.

I'm fine with that IMO her Mystique was blah compared to Rebecca's. And also IDK what it was but something ferocious was lacking about Lawrence's take on the character compared to Rebecca's. Rebecca's seemed a lot more ruthless imo.

No big surprise here. She had her run and in all honesty it was nothing special no matter how much screen time they gave her.

That was kind of the point.....Lawrence's Mystique hadn't actually become the ruthless mutant terrorist that we saw in the first three films; she was still relatively naive and innocent.

Makes sense. She'll been in a lot of big budget franchise movies over a short period of time when it's all said and done (7 in 6 years). It'll give her time to do the indie projects that have already given her one Oscar.

I think her play on the role made sense for the character in the context of the movie storylines.

Hey Mystique shouldn't have been as ruthless as Rebecca's...because she is supposed to grow into that...not be that right from the start.

She probably just wants a break from the big budget and franchise movies. She will have done 7 in 6 years after Apocalypse is released.

It's not necessarily that, a lot of actors aren't really keen on superhero movies because the new franchise format means they're signing away huge portions of their career to movies whose screenplays haven't even been thought of yet. Jon Hamm said studios have approached him for superhero parts several times, but he's never agreed because the contracts are draconian and you have to think about how much time they'll consume, and whether you'll have to give up other opportunities down the line because you've committed to these films. Studios don't do one movie contracts anymore. If you sign on as a superhero, you have to sign a multi-movie deal. Chris Evans didn't want to be Captain America because of that, they had to pump up his salary and send Robert Downey Jr. to cajole him, and even then he made it clear 6 movies was his limit because he wanted to retire from acting permanently and take up directing.

I agree. I liked "First Class", but I think that there was more buzz about her being cast, then about the character she was hired to play.

And yeah, she was never a particularly remarkable Mystique anyway. The standout of the prequels was Fassbender.

She was good but on the bright side this is probably the easiest role to recast.

they should recast her with Actress yvonne strahovski after Jennifer Lawrence is done playing mystique.

@vitality: Maybe, but the prequels felt so out of place that even her "growing" into that role seemed unrealistic, especially claiming she had a connection to Xavior in the past and then acting not even a little familiar or nonchalant about trying to kill him in the first movie, this was most likely because they tried to create this whole new story after the first movie was made already. Because of that we have two very different acting Mystique's and I have to agree with a lot of the other comments the first actress just played a more ruthless version. Which is a lot closer to her comic counterpart.

Agree 100%. Mystique was awesome in X2...

She's been great, but it's probably for the best. I'd assume her character arc is done after this movie and there's not much reason to keep an A-list, high quality actress like her around for a character who is only going to shrink in importance to the series as time goes on. Plus, if they resign her contract, they're going to have to pay her Hunger Games money.

I hear what you're both saying, for the movie's plot etc I'm just saying in general. Even in DOFP, Jenn's take didn't seem quite as nasty as Rebecca's. IMO at least.

I agree with @rogueshadow post more or less what I'm saying. Just liked her overall performance better than Jenn's. I think Jenn is awesome in hunger games though.

Love J-Law, but Fox needs her to go so they can stop trying to force X Men movies being about her. She is an actress, have her do what she thinks is good for the movie not make the movie good for her.
