Anyone else sick of "costumed freaks!" in CBM's?

Watched Cap 2 recently.

Small but annoying line of "you're gonna let these costumed thugs..." blah, blah... Is anyone else sick of it? I understand it's an important theme in comics, but it still doesn't overshadow things like admiration. We've sat through Nolan's trilogy, the X-Men movies, Watchmen, MoS and even the MCU incorporates some of that. We're going to have to do so again with Fantastic Four, Batman v Superman, X-Men: Apocalypse... Ugh as much as I hated TASM 2, the film at least dropped that particular issue (from TASM 1).

It's as if filmmakers think having that issue is the only way to add [believable] "realism" to the story they're trying to tell. It's tiring.

Thoughts?

Not a major issue whatsoever.

@tyrus:

Yeah, man - I'm bugged at it too and don't like it at all - maybe, initially, it worked out rather well, and now... it's derailed into generic Comic Book Movie territory and it's become cliché.

I agree for the most parts. But I do think Luke Cage in a disco suit or "Hipster Hawkeye" might not fit.

It's exhausting, generic and unoriginal. And if you're going to do this sort of thing - don't shove it against our faces, that's the very least you can do.

I don't have a problem with it. People are gonna have a hard time dealing with costumed heroes (especially government types).

The X-Men movies didn't have costumes. Just glorified biker suits.

I think it's good for "origin-type" movies, where the world that these heroes are in isn't used to it yet. After they establish that there are plenty of costumed heroes in any given world, it should be dropped. The MCU, by now, should drop it, after all, they've already seen Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Widow, Falcon etc.....so another costumed hero shouldn't be a big deal.

@tyrus: Not only is the problem utterly significant and the utmost a massive nitpick, you're still wrong...

-The mass public accepted Mutants in X Men: The Last Stand and X Men: Days of Future Past as heroes

-Batman was a symbol of hope in TDKR by the third act. The city erected a statue of him in his honor

-The MCU are incorporating it because it makes sense...people deserve to have that reaction. Do you want people to just sit there and accept superheroes in a black and white outdated fashion?

Yeah...the X-Men example is just wrong. Did you watch Days of Future past or even happen to remember it?
