The movie many were nervous about impressed by amassing a surprising $58 Million, topping the list of recently debuted movies and becoming the 12th conservative Marvel movie to debut at number one.

As it stands, the movie is ranked at 8.1/10 (IMDb) and 80% (Rotten Tomatoes).

How much do you all estimate the movie to make and what is your opinion of the film, if you've already seen it.

@jayc1324: It's not a huge amount but It's pretty good given that many believed the movie would do poorly.

I think it'll have some solid follow up weekends because the word of mouth about it will get out there. I went it cautiously and really enjoyed it. Enjoyed it more than Ultron honestly. Not as good as Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy, but still really good.

I think most people weren't sold enough to go opening weekend, but you'll see the numbers go up over the next weekend or two.

I think it will at least do that. I think with a movie such as Antman people often wait for reviews by critics or people they know before they go out to see it. So with good reviews(mostly) I think it should come close to $400m.

@granitesoldier: I'm kind of in the same boat as you were. Although I haven't seen it yet, I've been hearing good things about it. I originally wasn't going to see it but now I'll be seeing it in tonight.

@unbreakable_fs4: Honestly I only originally went because it's part of the MCU. I was very happy leaving the theater. There's a lot of heart and the humor is more of the self-deprecating Paul Rudd style, so while it has comedy it isn't like most other Marvel comedy. And it's a heist flick first. Like Ocean's 11 meets Marvel lol.

Oh and stay for the after credits. Till the very end of the credits. You won't be disappointed.

I really want this movie to do well, but I feel like Ant-Man should've been in a crossover movie before they made his solo movie.

@granitesoldier: I haven't seen it. But I understand what you mean about only seeing it due to it being in the MCU.

I see these films as live action comic issues. In fact, looking at them that way makes them a bit more enjoyable, even the bad ones, because they all connect like dots.

@granitesoldier: Awesome. I'll be sure to go in there with the right mindset. Thanks for the end credit tip, hopefully the theater has sense enough to keep the film running through the credits.

It's a Marvel film.

Seems obvious it would make at least a solid amount of money, because of brand awareness at this point.

Not necessarily. Mad Max was universally loved(definitely more so than Ant Man). While it's actually still in a theater not to far from where I live, it still dropped substantially weekly(though better than most).

@unbreakable_fs4:

Perhaps the international market performance was more solid...

"Burrowed into 37 overseas markets day-and-date with North America this weekend, representing about half of its final international footprint, and earned $56.4 million, 23% ahead of Thor and 44% ahead of Captain America: The First Avenger. Combined with NA’s #1 opening of $58.04 million, Marvel’s tiniest superhero grossed $114.4 million worldwide in its first frame.

Top performing territories are the UK/Ireland which came in at #1 with $6.0 million, 28% ahead of the first Captain America, Mexico which took second with $5.6 million on par withGuardians of the Galaxy, Russia with $4.9 million in line with Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

No Germany, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Japan and China and a lot other markets yet...

After Furious 7 400$M in china, the domestic box office lost relevance, actually A.AoU perform better than the original Avengers in the international box office, Marvel brand looks even stronger in the overseas markets, currently judge the hype and acceptance of the trailers based only on the US market doesn't guarantee Avengers/Furious 7/Jurassic World similar performances...

People were foolish to think the movie would flop.

At this point, you can take a movie called "Piece of sh*t and make it ''Marvel's Piece of sh*t" and it'll make at least 400 mil worldwide.

Yeah Ant-Man was surprisingly Good after some production problems... K. Feige demonstrated that currently the marvel machine is more prepared to face production problems than when they produce Thor the Dark World...

@asgaard: Isn't cinemascore just an average from a few hundred random movie goers? That's in no way a legitimate way to base something. Also looking at some of the other scores they clearly don't know what they're talking about with some(nightcrawler has a B-).

NO... Every Box office projection acknowledges cinemascore, Nightcrawler was a good movie but just made 38$M worldwide, conclusions? Cinemascore made a good evaluation of the movie content and the consequent audiences acceptance, regardless of the movie quality R movies like Mad Max and Nightcrawler target demographic is always inferior to PG-13...

"Ant-Man received a strong A rating on CinemaScore, which is a good early sign going forward. However, the film will also be facing tough direct competition over the next few weeks from the likes of Sony'sPixels, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Fox's Fantastic Four". http://pro.boxoffice.com/

I think it'll have some solid follow up weekends because the word of mouth about it will get out there. I went it cautiously and really enjoyed it. Enjoyed it more than Ultron honestly. Not as good as Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy, but still really good.

I doubt there will be an Ant Man 2 with those numbers. While its not a failure and they will make some profit, almost any other property in that slot would've made them more. When you can only make so many movies a year I think you don't bother making a second Ant Man.
