So my nephew wants to get into comics. He's 15, but isn't really interested in superhero comics. I told him about some great indie comics, but they are rated mature. The thought never really struck me, but do you have to be over 18 to get a mature rated comic like the walking dead or saga? Can a 15 year old walk in, buy a mature comic, no question asked?
A question about Mature comics.
@batlantern15: I think that answer is honestly going to vary based on the employees from shop to shop. Some might be cool with it, others might not be based on the following information.
A 15 year old should technically not be allowed to purchase The Walking Dead without an 18+ year-old present.
Here's Image's age rating system:
E - EVERYONE (all ages, may contain minimal violence)
T - TEEN (12 and up, may contain mild violence or mild profanity)
T+ - TEEN PLUS (16 and up, may contain moderate violence, moderate profanity use and suggestive themes )
M - MATURE (18 and up, may contain nudity, profanity, excessive violence and other content not suitable for minors)

Why are the age gaps rating so close? Rated T and M is like 2 years apart. That's hardly a difference.
It should be rated
E - EVERYONE (all ages, may contain minimal violence)
T - TEEN (11 and up, may contain mild violence or mild profanity)
M - MATURE (18 and up, may contain nudity, profanity, excessive violence and other content not suitable for minors)
I didn't know you had to be a certain age. I have picked up "mature" comics without them saying a word. I am 14.
I doubt most sellers would care honestly, it's not like alcohol. It's the same as buying an M rated videogame I'd assume, which is pretty easy. Besides, if the kid is mature enough to handle to good stuff then let him :)
I don't think most sellers really pay attention or care. I was only 16 when I bought my copy of Watchmen at a Borders Bookstore and nobody asked my age. But it depends on the kid if they are mature of enough for the content. Its a judgement call you/him have to make.
