Batman-Lives in a city that is mostly corrupted, filled with criminals who loves to destroy and create chaos, especially the Joker. His parents were killed by mugger. Batman was mostly fighting chaos in his lives, he knew how horrible it would be without order and rules.

Superman-Many of his villains, unlike Batman's loves to rule rather than destroy everything, like Lex, Darkseid, Mongol, Zod and Brainiac. He knew how horrible it would be to live under an iron fist.

However in stories like TDKR, Dark Knight strikes again and Injustice League. Superman usually is the one who stand with the government, or tried to bring order to create peace. Batman usually is the one who fought for freedom and didn't want to be ruled. That's quite weird. Captain America(who is a bit like Superman and has more connection with the government) in Civil War faced similar problem like Superman in TDKR but he chose to fight the government. The Justice Lords were also formed and leaded by Superman.

I don't get it. It has nothing to do with why Superman sided with government, it should have been Batman if we need one.

@slowpokeking:

Good points! I like your comparison to Marvel's Civil War.

It's because of Batman's nature. He's highly distrustfull, esspesially of Goverments. Superman, on the other hand, trusts -at least at first - that said Goverments have the best interest of others at heart.
