A new 52 justice league question.

So, i'm reading justice league #20 and the atom mentioned that the justice league had fought despero before and that martian manhunter had barely defeated him.

Why is it the return of despero and why did it mention mm? I don't recall martian manhunter or despero in the new 52 justice league. Is this referring to a pre-new 52 battle? I thought the new 52 was a complete reboot.

@exphio: it has been long as establishes that Martian Manhunter was a member of the League briefly during the 5 year gap between the teams origin and the present day.

It was an...off-panel fight. One mentioned of, but not actually occuring in the comic themselves.
