Tell me this you guys... is a martian in DC weakened in the presence of fire or fire and/or heat? because having a weakness against fire can be dealt with.. its the heat that can be the problem. Because there are a lot of things that emit heat but not everything has to burst into flames. or am i being stupid and not realizing that you cant get one without the other?

the thing is if he has a weakness against heat than his eyes beams cant be heat vision either ( was always under the impression they were just beams of concussive force)

It is hard to find explanations for the arbitrary weaknesses like kryptonite, lead, fire, etc. The best thing to do is get rid of these silly weaknesses.

It's fire. The reason behind it is that originally Martians were a race which reproduced with fire, and given the fact that any environment with an atmosphere can sustain large quantities of fire, and the fact that this race was both homicidally violent, had supercharged versions of a normal Martian's powers (powers which surpassed even those of the Martian Manhunter police force), and were only a ways off from developing interstellar travel, at which point, they'd be unstoppable, the Guardians, of the Green Lantern Corps, genetically manipulated the entire race, separating them into the White and Green Martians, while also instilling a psychological fear of fire to insure the original race never reappeared.

The one time said fear of fire was removed, by J'onn while attempting to alleviate said weakness, he transformed into a nigh unstoppable force that singlehandedly decimated the entire Justice League.

In short: Heat: Fine. Fire: Bad.

@colonyofcells: Actually Kryptonite has been pretty well explained, it emits a form of harmful radiation that just affects kryptonians more quickly and severely than other species due to their ability to absorb radiation. In normal humans prolonged exposure can cause cancer so its not just harmful to Kryptonians. As for the fire thing with Martians, its purely mental. The Guardians (Who founded the GL corps) implanted a deep seeded phobia toward fire and since all Martian abilities are based on their mind the disruption caused by this phobia causes their powers to be weakened due to lack of focus.
